I am have one heck of a time trying to remove the hub assembly to replace my axle joints. Does anyone have a way to do it with out destroying the assembly? I only ask because a new one retails a $365. 00

From a pevious post by Tom... .

Generous amounts of penetrating oil, combined with a little common sense, has always allowed me to remove these without destroying them. Loosen, but do not remove, the four hub-to-knuckle bolts from the back side of the hub/rotor. Leave about 1/8" gap between the bolt shoulder and the knuckle surface. Apply some tension with the hub puller, and strike the hub bolts with a hammer, each one in succession. This will almost always free up the hub from the knuckle. You can then remove the bolts, and remove the hub/rotor assembly with the puller alone.

Be very careful with the puller unless you want to buy new bearings. If yours is like mine you can beat on it till you are blue in the face. Here is a post I made after removing mine. 4 hours beating= nothing. 30 minutes with this method and both sides were removed. Remove the rotor before removing the hub it is easier. Just pry on it from the back and smack it with a hammer between the lug bolts. Go around it a couple of times and it will come right off.

Glad to be of service. I found that trick in the second gen forum. It sure saves a lot of headache and possibly ruining a hub.

the best way to remove is to take 4 bolts off back holding hub in. leave the nut on the axle shaft. take a wedge ir socket and put it between axle shaft(near ujoint)and housing and use steering wheel to pop hub assy apart. i have done about 25 of these this way you can have it apart in 10 min
