I have noticed a lot of diesel owners removing their mufflers. I was wondering what they are gaining other than a bunch of noise? I run a Banks system with a Dyna Flow and no cat. Plenty loud enough.

They never got to drive a semi for a few years like I did in the late 70's. Titan 90 Chebby with 8-71 and 13 speed road ranger. "Screaming Jimmy" My CTD has Magnaflow SS muf and it is not much louder than the stock exhaust. People like to make smoke and noise, and then wonder why the government screws with our fuel. Snoking

It's one of those things, that if you have to ask why, you probably wouldn't understand.

I love the sound of a straight-piped turbocharged diesel. Oo. Oo.

little more power ...

little better mileage ...

little lower egts ...

one less thing to go wrong/cost money

lots easier to hear the turbo whine the way god intended ...

I removed my muffler coupla weeks ago, no difference in noise over stock, but did notice lower egt's at idle and quicker turbo spool up. When towing , egt reduced about 150 degrees.

Chucked the cat and muffler last week. A handful of loose soot fell out of the input side of the muffler when tipped upside down. Gets the citidiots of the cell phones too. Tisk tisk tisk!

I would like to put the original muffler or find a muffler to quiet mine down. My truck has a terrible drone to it at 75 mph. When pullin a trailer it will drive ya out of the cab. If any one has one that they want to part with let me know. I need to quiet mine down as much as I can. My hearing is getting bad any way and my ears ring so bad from listening to noisey farm equipment all day that I dont need to crawl in my truck and listen to it scream in my ears either.

last summer cut the muffler and the other big thing in the exhaust on my 2004. 5. I cant remember what the other thing was cuz its been so long ago. I replaced it with a piece of 4" pipe. then 2 weeks ago i got pulled over right before i installed 5" stack kit to 7" stacks. I installed the stacks despite the officers complaints later that day and planned on cutting the exhaust and welding up a mbrp in the middle of my straight pipe. after the stack install The noise went up slightly with the stacks. then last night I finished installing my ATS exhaust manifold I run it at idle for 20 seconds maybe at 10:30 (5 cops in my nieghborhood, 1 across the street). I just got done with my test drive. i couldnt believe it the ATS exhaust manifold quieted down my truck tremdously without buying a $100 muffler. the turbo whines a bit more but this also could be in part due to me pulling the silencer ring off again. You may have luck with the ats exhaust manifold also. I personally am young and have alot of younger buddies and we like things loud so I kinda miss the rachet the stock exhaust manifold made. but the new turbo whine is welcome.

haha more like scares the **** out of them and they like drop the phone on the floor boards and grab the steering wheel with both hands

also I remember last summer i learnt my truck will blow black smoke on a hot day with the exhuast gone and the 6 gun turnt up. I learnt it the hard way when I was at a light and wanted to race a hatchback and loaded up the turbo. at the next like I heard a bunch of horn blowing and cuss words and I a car rolls up next to me with the passenger hanging out the drivers side window cussing me out and flippin me the bird. i thought about it for the next 3 miles before I realized what he was so angry about and I start laughin. that was the 1st time my truck ever smoked. I know for a fact my truck wouldnt smoke with the factory cat and muffler

Got one, muffler and tailpipe, like new, from a '96 3500 4x4. You're welcome to them if you can get to Fort worth before the company decides to clean house and toss them out.
