I just used my hands, but you could always get one of these--

I'll bet any local Napa carries something similar.
Use the Force Luke... ... .
If it were me, Id just be careful and not short the positive terminals to ground when removing them. But If I were advising someone else, I'd tell them to carefully wrap their ratchet handles and other wrenches to be used for this in electrical tape.
I'd remove both negative terminals, then each positive terminal and wrap each positive terminal with 3 layers of electrical tape leaving the last part of the tape folded onto itself to easily get the tape back off.
If you're fairly strong you can get them out by grasping the sides and lifting them out. I'd have a work surface of appropriate hight and stability right next to me to set them on.
If I was unfamiliar with any of this, I would head on down to the local repair shop and pay them to do it.
as a side question, is there any danger to the electrical system to the vehicle if you do accidentally touch a perfect length box end wrench to each terminal?:-laf may have done that a few times...
