Anyone know how to remove the plastic trasfer case shifter housing on a 2003? I'm installing a trans temp gauge and need to route the wire through this. Thanks.

Do you mean the boot? It just snaps in/out. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry it out from the edge.

If you mean the actual plastic piece that the boot snaps into, it should be obvious where the screws are once the boot is removed.

I have the 6-speed, and I can't picture what the housing looks like for automatic trucks with the manual transfer case (can't find a diagram in the service manual, either!).

I'm talking about the rectangular hard plastic that mounts to the floor. I thought it might just snap off, but I don't want to break it. Are you saying there are screws under the leather shifter boot that hold this housing down to the carpet?

there is also screws in the cupholder on the passenger side under the rubber pad.

If he's got an automatic, I don't think he has the cupholders. I think it's just a small plastic housing that holds the transfer case shifter boot.

Right? Only the manual trucks have the huge cupholder thing on the floor.

Yes it's an auto - cupholders are in dash. So do I just pull up the boot around the xfer case shift shaft to get to the screws?

I use a flat blade screwdriver to gently (so as not to damage the plastic or the boot) pry at the seam between the plastic housing and the shifter boot. Where the shifter boot goes into the housing.

There are several small plastic tabs that grip the plastic. It takes a bit of force to get the first one to pop, but after that the rest fall like dominoes.
