Time to install the Rancho RS5404 steering stablizer. Looks like one side is a tapered pin with nut and the other is just a bolt? Any tips for saving some of the skin on my knuckles? Thanks!

Dane,

They are a breeze to change. If your new stabilizer gives you a new tapered mounting nut, drive the old one out from the front. A good hit with a hammer should pop it right out.

Dane, the tapered bolt on mine was a bear,I finally had to heat it and use a pitman arm puller to get it out, that one bolt took 99. 9% of the time for the job. Hope you have better luck.

Thanks for the tips guys! Bill - I owe ya #ad
the pitman arm puller made it easy. Would have been tough with out it as my biggest hammer didn't budge the tapered shaft. The only problem on the install was the replacement tapered shaft was a tad too small in diameter, shimmed it with electrical tape. We'll see if it does the trick and keeps it from rattling.

I'd call Rancho and see whats up with the tapered stud. It sounds like they gave you the wrong tapered stud.
