Due to a small oil seepage at the front of the vacuum pump, local DC service dudes have determined I have a bad gasket on the front of the vacuum pump.

It looks to me as tho' the pumps remove as a single assembly - probably best done from topside after removing the intercooler tube and airhorn to the manifold.

If so, does the driver side battery also need to be removed for good access? I sorta need to know because I have a fuel filter mounted to that battery hold-down bolt, and would consider moving it myself to an out-of-the-way location while servicing is accomplished - anyone have a service manual that lists removal procedure for the 2 pumps?

If you don't allready have your seals, contact John at -- email address removed --. Total cost is $24 along with the seals he will also send you instructions on how to replace them. When I replaced mine it took 2hrs.

We jsut ordered the kit from Cummins at $6. 98 each. Comes with two o-rings, the double lipped seal, and the gasket between the pump and the gear case.

Cummins part # 4089742

FYI, if you just bought the gasket alone it would cost you the $6. 98.

Mine is a warranty issue/replacement - I just hope they are sharp enough to do a COMPLETE job, and thoroughly inspect/replace EVERYTHING needed, so I don't hafta take it back in for essentially the same complaint a week later!
