I have my fuel filter out ,the top of the bracket loose and moved over out of the way. Just changed out lift pump( no problem) and the banjo bolts. My problem is the oil pressure sensor . I want to change it out as it is bad? It is a 1 1/4 inch and I can,t find a 1 1/4 deep socket anywhere. Any ideas short of the deep socket? Also what happens if I don,t get it connect will the warning bell keep going off? HELP Thanks

socket

Terry,

I bought a 1 1/4" deep socket at Home Depot. There display was a mess but just keep digging in there. They really have a good selection. Hope this helps... . Jack

Hi Jack I finally found one. I let my fingers do the walking this time. To snowy today to be running all over the place. I guess its the only thing that works to get the oil sensor out. It wasn,t very tight but nothing else would take it out. The part was $70. 00 and the socket to replace it was $25. 00,sure ate that hundy up fast. But now that I got the socket and know how it will never go bad again. I put a new lift pump in and filter plus added the bored out banjo bolts while I was in there. Now I have a spare pump also. Gained 3 psi at the test port past the filter but don,t know if it was the new pump. new filter or the banjo bolts. This was the latest greatest pump. I have 13. 5 - 14. 0 psi now at idle. Could,nt do a road test because of the snow. I,m a tired but happy camper. Until next time. TT

Is 1-1/4" the correct size for removal of this or is it metric? Does anybody really know for sure? I thought I've read about two different sizes of sockets on here that fit this item. Thanks!

After I had the dealer replace my sensor for around $300+ (grr!) I posted asking the same question. Someone came back with a 32mm deep well socket as being the proper size for my 99'. Hope that helps.

The socket is special with rounded corners and deep well to clear the plastic wiring connector. The socket style/size is the same as has been used for 40? years, but the deep well type is harder to find. Lisle is one source.

I just got nicked at the dealer for $180 part and some change to install it. I do remember the mechanic saying it was a 32 mm deep socket to get the part changed. Sure was a wake up call to see the oil pressure go away while travelling down the road. Gets the pulse rate up just a little bit!

After asking whether or not the 1 1/4 size was correct, I contacted the local Cummins dealer. They said that 1 1/4 is correct. I guess a metric version of 1 1/4 is 31. 75, so 32 mm may be a bit big? In any case, we sell tools where I work so I ordered an SK 1 1/4" deep well to change this bugger out. Keeping my fingers crossed!
