As my list of devices interacting with my phone grows daily I’m not happy with some of the titles that are automatically assigned when you pair up.

I just googled this for an iPhone and Apple Support claims you can change the name on certain device pairings but only when connected to that device.
I’m going to try it later on today and report back. Maybe some of you tech types are already aware of this but I figured many on here don’t know it’s even possible.

This is my current mess...

Thanks good idea to clean those up.

Samsung S10/Android makes it pretty easy.
Just click the settings gear and change away.
I just noticed how many Chevy's we have added this past year doing this clean up.

I think with Apple you need to name the device in settings. I gave my iPad a special name, and that shows up when I’m pairing. Something like a speaker? Not sure if you can change that.

Update!!!

iPhone users check it out...

Apple must have done something in an update as I was having trouble pairing with a vehicle this morning, and I went deeper in the Bluetooth Menu than is usual for me...

Lo and behold I can change names of the several items I am currently paired with......

Finally!!!

Mike, I have to renamed our apple phones all of the time! Why? I get the older Apple Phone as my wife will get the newer phone when we buy one. We just purchased a new Apple phone this November for her and I received the older phone which is about three years old. I need to rename them and pair both phones to our Bluetooth devices such as her Bluetooth hearing aids, her car, and my truck FM Bluetooth repeater plus the Garmin RV navigator. Since she does not want the older phone interfering with her hearing aids and her car radio when the older phone is present.

It usually takes a day or so to get everything working correctly for me. The worst part is somethings are pass word protected for us and you need to remember which past word that I used in the past.

Mike is referring to renaming the Bluetooth device names in settings, not renaming the phone itself.

I know I have to do this is my settings plus the devices we have since we have 2-I pads and 2-phones which are all apple products.

Took a kid to school in the wife’s 4Runner and was able to rename that one too.

You had devices that would let you rename them before the update?

We have 5 apple devices too. Never been able to rename the Bluetooth devices, or at least as many as I can now. Before I think I only had 1 and it was a rental car.

Mike and I weren’t as lucky.

Can’t wait to rename the rest when I get home tonight. What a confusing thing when you can not edit them.

Amazing that such a simple upgrade will bring me much joy!!:D

Sometimes I have a full two screens worth going, and to complicate things most new trucks, my delivery trucks and many customer units have Bluetooth radios which will grab my phone. I accept the request, play my Pandora and jump out of the truck a couple hours later.....then can’t find it to delete it...

John, Yes I believe my wife's older phone, I-Phone 7 which I now have would allow me to do the renaming sometime last year in 2019. But my old I-phone 5 would not, which I no longer use, no update was release for that phone series. She got a SE model which was introduced in early 2020 and cost considerably less in $$$ than the I-phone 12.

My kid's and grandkid's keep me on my toe's with all of the latest technology. Like the most recent acquisition a "NIXPLAY". The kid's can send you digital photo's that can be displayed on the screen for your enjoyment.
