Not long ago, I made the decision to keep my 2002 dually versus buying a new one. I just like the truck too much and being paid for doesn't hurt any. Well, today I finished the last item on my list to make it like new... I applied a kit today to eliminate yellowing of the headlights and fog lights. Works great, leaves them looking new and has lifetime guarantee. I just had the roof and hood repainted due to clear coat turning white. Looks great. I also sanded and reapplied the Black Fussion paint on the front plastic insert and applied the first time on the front bumper cap. Also looks great. About a month ago, I stripped the entire enterior out, including headliner, and applied Dynamat Extreme to the entire interior. The truck is cooler w/ A/C on and quieter. I may purchase the engine quiet kit too.

The truck has 108K miles. I'm real pleased w/ the results and look forward to many more years of service from this truck. :D

Happy Trails,

Awesome!

I too have a 2002 that had yellow/cloudy headlights and I found what worked the best was Eagle One Chrome and Mag polish with jewlers rouge. But I've found you can't buy it anymore#@$%!

Anyway, Good work on the restoration project.

My 00 is getting a complete strip and repaint, still Driftwood but tweaked justa tad. The pearl in the paint was tweaked as well as the metallics. New windshield ( cracked ), towing mirrors, aluminum running boards shot with line x, antenna shaved and tailgate latch moved to the inside as well as the plastic piece removed from the tailgate. The bed will get line x as well as the black plastic covers ( tops )on the front and rear bumpers.

I got a pretty healthy back pay check in August so out of the $5500 total for the work only $1500 was out of pocket, not a bad deal. The interior will be next.

I can't see getting rid of a perfectly good truck and now I will have one the way I want it. Of course it has been in the shop for over 3 weeks and I can't wait to see it.

Good for u guys. I like the idea of restoring the truck that is finally set up the way we like. By stating that, I'm not putting down the new ones, but for several reasons I'm hanging on to mine as long as possible this time around.

Phil,

My coworkers think I am crazy. Of course they are never without a new vehicle of some sorts. As far as my truck is concerned, no rattles, squeaks, wind noise or anything. It has held up really well and with a little TLC it will last a little longer or until they stop making parts for it, lol.

Scott, I think the same way. I guess we all know someone that has fixed up their 'ol rig and made it a really nice machine to own. It's also good to know your rig and can tell just by a sound or feel that something is not right. I'm with you, TLC...

Great posts guys. There isn't any reason why these trucks can't last for years and look great with a little TLC. There is one thing the new trucks don't have either, and that is the distinctive 2nd Gen sound. I love it.

My next project is restoring my 1st Gen. I'm thinking of a bright yellow and black trim (Super "B").

It's raining now, but will post picture of my rig later on. Hope y'all post pics of yours too as you finsish them.

The only downside is if your truck gets "t boned" the insurance won't come close to making it right. I love my old '94 and it's in pretty good shape too.

My '01 has been a constant work in progress since I bought it used in '06. Getting close to being done for now though; all that's left on the list for the immediate future is replacing the brake lines which are corroded very badly, and soundproofing the cab. Most everything else has been brought back up to snuff, at a cost though. I intend to keep this truck running until fuel runs out.

Im keeping my 02

I've had my 02 since, well 02. Its the best most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned. the only thing I wasn't happy with and that almost got me to upgrade to a newer model was the extra bonus loud engine noise. Then I heard about and got and installed an ATP quiet kit. Just the top and bottom covers (not the exhaust, turbo and hood liner). Now it sounds very close to 3rd gen quiet. And I intend to keep driving it till the wheels fall off. 106,000 and still goin

As long as the truck is still fitting your needs, you will always come out ahead money wise hanging on to your current vehicle over buying new.

A friend of ours here did a complete frame off restoration on his '94. It has probably 350K+ on it now, but runs and looks great for very little investment compaired to a new on.
