California and rental properties

Truck stolen right before my eyes.

In the next week or two will be going to pick up my truck from Winnemucca, wondering if anyone has suggestions on ways to get from Reno (appears to be the closest airport) to Winnemucca  . Blew the VP back in June and finally getting around to having it fixed. Figured on flying into Reno, just didnt make sense to drive something else out to pick it up as I have to pick up a trailer in CA with the truck.

thanks

Rental Car? Enterprise has an office in Winnemucca. With one-way rentals you usually have to call the rental office, can't do it online. Hwy 80 makes the drive just a hop, skip, and jump from Reno (of course, that's a Nevada hop, skip, and jump). Greyhound also goes that route. It's probably cheaper than renting a car...

Of course, there may be a member here who takes that route daily and could give you a lift???? :D

LOL I was kinda curious about the last thought there... I havent ridden the bus since I got a drivers license (prefer to keep it that way  )

I checked with Enterprise out here in CO, told me they want a $150 additional one way charge, but I might give the Reno office a call, maybe they have a need for one to go that direction. I was originally checking to rent one here in CO and drop it in Winn. but then they would need an addition $250 drop fee and millage for return trip. If i didnt have a trailer that I already have to bring back I would have rented the dang car and just tossed it on a car dolly and brought it back. Also looking at Amtrak... could just catch the train out here and it would drop me off in Winn. 24 hours later... almost the same price as flying if I cant find a discount flight on the day i need it.

I dont have a date set yet, got all the parts ordered, now the shop just has to get them in (no estimate for completion yet), and schedule around the weather... so I am pretty flexible ;)

Will check in with the shop doing the work and see if i can get an estimate for completion. truck is over at Liberty Dodge.

Ive seen your truck over there. Its dirty but it looks like its been left alone. I just talked to a guy in Elko that took the time to actually call Dodge and complain about the pump. He had his replaced at the Elko Dodge dealership. He told them that it should be either a warrenty or a recall item. He was mostly just complaining but they called back several weeks later out of the blue. They offered to settle the cost of the pump replacement and offered him $3500. 00. It might be worth it to do a little complaining yourself! Especially if you have a good cellphone and a long road back to col.

I am sure it is almighty dirty... thing was filthy before I started on that trip, was the fourth consecutive run (Sac. CA to basically Cheyenne, WY) when the VP went. Supposedly they were going to idle it into the cage, would idle when I left it, but sure the batt's are probably toast now, been sitting since June. Got most of the fuel out of the transfer tank before leaving it, filled it up there at the Flying J before heading east... only made it half way to Battle Mtn.
I doubt dodge would have too much sympathy, pump had 250k miles on it (but might give it a try on the 15 hours home), I sourced all my own parts, so VP is coming from MidWest FI, and clutch is coming from South Bend.
Last time we stayed over there in Winnemucca it was the Basque parade. Dealership there has actually been really easy to deal with.
How has the weather been out there? almost t-shirt weather here today (45*) warmest it has been in a month and a half.

took a look at the greyhound schedule, 7am and 7Pm essentially. Will keep it in mind if something else doesnt work out, will be trying to get there during business hours.

Galt still there after all the wind the other day?

Have to go pick up my trailer in Elk Grove before heading home, friend whos place it is at is hopefully pulling it out of the mud so I can get to it.

The weather has been horrible in Reno 6-8 inches of snow. Winnemucca has only had rain today (27-34deg). Greyhound stops at Winners Corner on Wmca Blvd. Winners casino is basically across the street and they have a shuttle that should be able to drop you to the dealership. Les Schwab Tires will have the best batteries in town. They are uphill from Flying J. So is Walmart if that is your preference.

Will have to wait for decent weather (and for the truck to be done), thats for sure, I have to go over the pass into CA and back too. Trip would be much more pleasant to think about it if it wasnt for that part. Need good weather to be able to get home too... get too much snow here and I have no chance of getting back in. Finally getting some of our snow melted off here (was still hanging around from a storm we had right before turkey day), has broken 40 a couple days. . now back down to the 30s but still above freezing so I am happy with that.
Was going to do the VP and have a clutch put in, but my dad is helping out some and ordering the parts, then I pay him for them... but since he was ordering he decided to order an OEM replacement clutch from Napa instead of the SBC 13" conversion clutch/flywheel I asked him to... so I think I am going to have the shop there leave the new clutch in the seat and I will just take it back to Napa... I see absolutely no point in doing half the job for 85% of the money. Kind of got used to driving with no pilot bearing left... shift on the move, not planning on stopping too much on my way home ;)
Have dealt with Les Schwab, have been good to me so far will check with them first, would like to go to a sealed batt. to help in the cold here, the ones I have in there right now are from Kragen/Advance auto parts and they have never really been up to snuff, probably still under warranty too, but I already had them replaces once under warranty and it didnt help (always acts like they are barely going to start the truck when its cold out).
I know the WalMart well LOL good place to stop late in the evening when the Flying J is too full. Have wandered around town some on our overnights there, kind of know where the major things are now.

Yeah, we're still here. Wind didn't do much to my place other than blow some trash into the yard. Although it took out at least three trees at a friend's house.

It's still not that muddy. The ground did a good job of soaking up all the water since it wasn't yet saturated. Of course, the rest of the storms coming through this week could be a different story.

LOL yep, looked into that too, 24hours almost to the minute. price isnt horrible either.
Might have another option too, friend in Sac. CA just ordered a new trailer from KS, so if it is finished and ready to go will haul that out and wifey will drive the other truck home bobtail. Atleast in this case trip to winn. would be paid for.
