How do I edit a picture?

GM and Ford to merge?

So, I'm out a town, and work rented me a "mid sized" car. Kia Sorento is my victim.

Neat little thing. . RWD, posi!. Suggest-a-matic 5 speed.

So, my daily routine has been

1. Foot on go peddle, turn start key on cold motor. Listen for barrings screeching. yep motor started (hey, it's not my diesel, I can't hear the thing!)

2. toss in gear, floor down roads 1. 5 miles later, at my destination, motor is at operating temp, rev shutdown.

3. At stop lights, parking break, breaks, floor throttle for the duration of the light. That should warm up the transmission right?

4. roll out of spot at 10mph, place transmission in D... ... heh. start driving forward after jerk.

5. This SUV doesn't have ABS...

6. This SUV has a posi rear. Figured this out when it started to rain.

7. either it's idling or at 4000+ rpm... .

Good thing I didn't get the mustang... .

HAHAHA!!! Good stuff!!! Great thread topic! :D

Considering what I do to MY OWN truck, I will withhold any rental stories. They are pretty graphic!!! :-laf

Here is a recent victim  :-laf

I have two notable victims in 3 weeks in China Lake, CA.

week 1 Dodge Caravan. 5 Sailors are with me, i'm Designated driver heading for San Diego. Start getting close to town and the van starts to overheat. Both sliding doors come open along with the heat coming on. We have a good night at the bars and its now about 1 AM and time to head home. Stop by a conveniance store and the guys in back get 2 cases of beer. I did not partake at any time during the night. As we leave the store i go to pull out and the curb is not your standard 4-6 inch curb. This one is 12-18 inches. Thanks to front wheel drive I get the van off high center and hit the road. Fast Forward 3 hours. Getting close to China Lake again and I can see all the coyotes eyes looking back at me and a rabbit runs out onto the road. I'm doing about 70-80 and am NOT going to swerve for a measly rabbit. I slowly move into the left lane and the rabbit starts to run in my direction. At the lest second it runs out in front of me. There went the front bumber.

Week 3 Chevy car. Heading back to China Lake from Vegas via death valley. I'm driving again headoing up and out. This poor car is floored at 4k+ doing 35 straight up the hill. By the time I get to the stop I had to be nice and let it idle for a couple of minutes to let it cool off a bit. Ever seen a 18-wheeler with smoking brakes? Yep, that was me going down the other side. I could have locked it in 3 or 2 but what fun is that? By the time I got to the bottom there wasn't any more brake fade left. Those poor brake pads were nice and shiney by the time I got done with them

On vacation in San Diego me and two of my buddies had a convertable mustang V6!! It was a dog!! But if you did a U-turn on a downhill you could fishtale it pretty good! Oh our favorite was going over harsh speedbumps at 10-15 mph and holy cow it was good it was a convertable cause we'd have hit our heads! and people just loooooked!! was funny to us at the time! we also discovered we could power brake w/ it if you started the rear tires on a speed bump -

so were sitting there just roasting the tires right in front of a store (cause thats the only place speed bumps are) and we look to our left and here are two cop cars parked beside each other and the policemen are out of their cars watching us. so we did the "grin and nod" thing and left and they never moved! Oh to be 18 again!

I was recently arrested for doing a burnout... Oh how that *** gets to me #@$%!

And people wonder why cops get shot :(

i got b!tched at by a cop for doing a 90 degree turn into work (left turn on a 4 lane with no divider and hellish traffic) one morning in my bimmer but he didn't ticket me, "uhhh i guess i got off the clutch a little too fast, sorry" it's not a good place be sitting, we use to have a score sheet by the door for wrecks infront of the shop, i feel better when i am in the truck as it's a bit more visible :D

I guess I am just a stick in the mud. I am always very appreciative that work will supply me with a rental so I don't have to use my own. Granted I don't baby them like my own vehicles, but my conscience would get to me if I deliberately beat the hell out of them to that extent.

Do me a favor and NEVER ask to borrow anything of mine!

Honestly, people that I know that let me barrow, yeah, I treat it like my truck.

Infact, I take these opportunities to do the exact opposite of what I would do to something I own, including parking as close to the door as possible ! :)

Airport 2 miles from hotel.

work is 1. 6 miles.

first 2 days, about 4 or 5 miles for getting lost and missing turns.

lunch places less then 1 mile

I figure in about 30 miles total drive is all I've done. (I suppose I can ask the rental car company what my starting millage was right?).

Anywho, I looked at the fuel gauge today. . 1/4 missing tank. What's that? 5mpg?

I totalled a Hertz Pontiac T1000 back in the 80s. Had to go back to the rental counter and ask, "Please, may I have another?" Yep, I got one!

speaking of hertz, they have the GT350 H back... Wonder if people will rent them and swap motors for a V6 like they did back in the 60's :)

That would funny.

Oh I beat the holy tar out of rentals. Burnouts, power braking, fish tailing, overloading, you name it. Rented a 1500 Dodge Ram Hemi. Dang near roasted all the tread off the rears. Same for the Nissan Titan. We had a Sable once and decided to leave the trucks at home and head to Menards with the rental, well loaner actually. I can't remember all we crammed in there, but something like 16 bags of cedar mulch, 100 pounds of bird seed, 4 rolls of weed barrier, and who knows what else. The trunk was packed, the back seat and floor was packed, and we strapped the rest on top of the car. The security guard at Menards was just standing there in stunned silence, but smiled when we assured him that it wasn't ours. :-laf

Fire up the rental when cold soaked at -40F. Oh yeah foot is on the floor before start up. I don't want to waste any time/fuel getting the engine warmed up. The longer it runs cold the worse it is on the engine right?? After about a minute bouncing it off the governor you start to get warm air out of the vents.

After you've smoked the brakes off a rental I use the engine brake (drop it in reverse).

Oh yeah, squealing the tires before you pull out of the rental lot gets you a lot of looks. I learned that one from my dad.
