2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Front Brake Pad Replacement

I'm replacing the box on my '94 with one from a 2000 (Thanks DDT!). It needs some paint to match the rest of the truck and while I'm there, I'm replacing the doors (rust) and at least one front fender (more rust).

The original moulding is weathered and, since it all needs to come off for the paint, I'm not sure if I want to replace it. If I do replace it I'll use the late style (black, no chrome strip in it).

So, I'm asking two questions:

Does the newer style '99 (?) & up mouldings on the dually fenders use a fastener through the fender like the old pieces do? I need to know this to determine if the body shop should plug the holes.

Those of you with the newer trucks with no moulding, do you get dings in the parking lots?

Thanks for your input!

My 97 is going to get painted soon and yes I will be replacing the side molding!

I dont like the idea of not having the molding!

99 was the last year mouldings were put on dually beds,, (and the srw,, i think)

i actually bought the 99 mouldings for my 01 dually bed and then took them off the whole truck to add graphics.

i also switched the old style mouldings on my 94 to the newer style and did the whole truck except from the rear wheel to the gate.

all OEM mouldings 94 to present are held on with 2 sided tape(dually or srw) so there shouldn't be any holes to fill.

mouldings

Take a look at Hillbilly Hotrodders truck mouldings. That is the route I am going. Black mouldings are gonna be history soon.

Personally, I hope not. I like the moldings on the '94-'97 trucks the best. The new all chrome pieces are too plain. No character.

If I bought a 3G, I would put on 2G emblems, in place of the originals.

My truck does have aluminum running boards which will reduce the damage from car doors (but not truck doors).

There is a fastener through the dually fenders at the front and rear of the trim pieces. It's on both sides and attaches to the trim from the back side. They are quite rusted and the trim is starting to lift from the ends as it is so it would need to be reworked anyway.

Since the new style doesn't have fasteners, I'll plug the holes. The trim might have to wait for funding brefore installation the way it's looking. (But my 913 pump should be shipped this week. :D )

Extreme1,

Did you buy new doors or are skins for the door available?

I just ordered the bumpers, moldings & 2500 trim. I understand the trim is heat gun applied & or removed. Have you tried this yet? Any tips to pass on?

The dreaded bubbles have appeared on my fender. I think I have caught them early enough to save the fender.

This is the start of the bottom half repaint job. I plan to have them remove all the grey before appling all new grey.

I'll let you guys know how it works.

Thanks,

New doors. The originals were repaired 5 years ago and one is just starting to come through. It's funny that the patch job lasted longer than the original steel did.

I think skins are available.

I had mine re-painted in spring, I removed the moldings and sprayed over the areas where they were, along with everywhere else. I really like the look of the truck with-out the mouldings, it's cleaner and different. I also purchased new '04 name plates and installed them lower then OEM, right were the mouldings had been. The trucks has a new and different look, and after all these years it's a welcome change.
