After replacing about three lift pumps over the last five years I disassembled one to find out what fails. I noticed that the top stainless steel cover had significant wear from the vane pump gears. I just turned the top plate over and re-assembled it. I torqued the three top nuts to about 100 in/pounds. The pump put out 10 psi when I tried it. I now have a spare to carry with me. Has anyone else tried to repair one?

Its been posted before to turn the gasket over too. However if you break the drive cup or the brushes are gone... your out of luck. But I agree some may have been discarded and still had plenty of life left in them.
