i keep getting a code that translates into an air leak between MAF and throttle body. First dealer while I was camping pressure tested and replaced intercooler tubes. Didn’t work and code thrown on the way home. Home shop looked at egr and MAF sensor. Cleaned egr and replaced MAF. Apparently a new code had come on indicting low voltage from MAF. They stated that they tested the voltage and it was fine but replaced the sensor.

Drove the truck for 10 days or so with no issues but as soon as I tow the 5th wheel the code come right back on which again indicated air leak between MAF and throttle body again. This time no code about low voltage from MAF sensor. It seems to trigger when truck under towing load.

When code thrown the truck loses power. It’s going back to the dealer when I get home.

Has anyone had anything like this happen. This is strange. ECM issue? Leak in an area not yet tested. Problem with ram air box.

My truck Is a 2017 3500.

Thanks

Look at this hose.

They pressure tested and replaced hoses in Twin Falls. Didn’t get the air leak code until pulling again some three weeks later. In between got low MAF voltage code but that was replaced and this latest code is for air leak again.

I wonder if it only happens towing due to the pressure creates from the turbo but it they really did trace and replace hoses could they have failed to tighten enough or they really didn’t do all the work?

Update, after cleaning EGR and replacing the MAF sensor the truck drove fine with no codes until I again hooked up the RV and pulled it up a grade. Back to the shop, today I got call that they think the 2281 (I think that was the code meaning air leak between MAF and throttle body) could be a faulty EGR valve. I didnt see that on anything in the internet related to this code but I am not a mechanic? Seems like the MAP sensor or throttle body gasket then the ECM would be the order of buisness.

Can an EGR valve cause a air leak code? Is there not an electronic monitoring of our EGR performance such that a different code would trip for it uniquely?

So, have towed two different trailers now and no code. It seems changing the EGR cooler did the trick. Since I only had 45K on the truck and the cleaning isnt due until 67.5K what could have been the reasons mine failed so early. Idle in winter too long, short drives, diesel additive I add when I think of it, etc?

Nothing that you have done in my humble opinion would have caused your cooler to fail.

Some items just fail early in the design life of a component. All components that are used on any man-made device have a design cycle life which is called the B10 life or whatever percentage that is expect to fail early. This means that 10% of the component that are used, such as your EGR cooler will fail below the design life target.
