My cousin has a 02 and when it is hot out he can be driving at about say 30 mph and if he hits the throttle it does nothing but if he slows down then hits it it goes to the mph it was at when this happened so he takes it to the dealer and they come up with the turbo is getting hot and sticking (what ever that means sounds weird to me but they are the experts!) the truck has 275 inj. and edge ez manual shift the dealer also said there is a 100$ deductable on the turbo (I thought it was covered under the 100,000 mile warranty guess not) has anyone ever heard of these things any info would be great thanks Aaron

They turbo is covered 100% under the 5year/ 100K warranty. But, you put aftermarket injectors in and this voids your warranty.

I would pay the $100 if that indeed is the problem.

When you say you hit it at 30mph and does nothing, what exactly do you mean? The engine does not respond? The engine revs, but does not have power? Does it blow smoke? Black or white?

May be something other than your turbo. Can you spin it freely by hand? What is your lift pump pressure? When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Ect. ect... .

when it does nothing the motor does not respond to the throttle fuel is fine filter is new it carries about 16 psi the dealer has know idea about the injectors and the box was removed I just dont understand how the turbo has anything to do with the egine not responding I think it is ether the vp or apps or ecm but this problem happened when the guy from the dealership was in it do you know where to find out if the turbo is covered so I can let him have some documentation to show the dealer thank you for the quick response Aaron

Do you have access to the truck? Have you checked for codes?

Cycle the key on-off 3 times ending with on. Watch the odo and write down all the numbers you see and don't touch a thing until you see the milage pop back up.

That's a place to start.

It sounds like dead pedal. This is usally apps or VP44.

Dave

P0216 means that your cousin will soon be in the market for a replacement VP44. It also pretty much explains the dead pedal symptom. I am not an expert by any means, but I would think that if a turbo was heating up enough to stop turning, more than a dead pedal would be felt.

Well thank you all for the time to help I just thought it was funny that the dealer would even think to say the turbo was causing it the dealer is in Romeo I looked up the code and it says injection pump timeing failure thanks again I will keep you posted later Aaron
