Yellow top Optima's have worked very well for me. I even took one of them out for a while to run my old 91 gasser and the truck ran fine on just one.
 
Try the Optima gels. Traditional liquid filled batteries can "burp" acid under the hood and down the fenders ruining the paint. I know... ..... it happened to me. After the repaint, the Optima's went in and no more worries about paint damage.

I hadn't heard that running down the Yellow top was necessary. The Red top is a starting battery. The Yellow top is only required for power hungry items. A winch, offroad lights or high compression engine would qualify. I have a Yellow top in my Jeep. I've drained it to nothing at least 10 times with no bad effects. Standard leadacid would've died by now.
