I just priced new battery cables from Mopar. Ouch!



The + cable from battery to battery. part # 56017788 AB 170. 00



( - ) cables rt or left part # 56017789 AB 81. 00



Anyone with better sources?

We've got to a local company here in our home town that makes cables... . we take them the old one and they make a new one just like it... .



Remember that a 10 ft section of copper tube was 4 bucks 150 days ago and that same copper tube is now close to 20 bucks... . wire is the same thing... . so I can't give you specific pricing... . but I don't remember any cable over 20 or 25 that we've bought lately...

Thats one of the reasons I bought the equiptment to make them yrs. ago , I may have spent less than the cost of a set of cables from dodge , and I bought the best tools from the highest priced place - Snap On Tools .
If any bodies in my area , then I'll be glade to make up a set , if you do the R&R it will save $$$ , I no longer have a shop , but its easy enough to do out of my truck .
You may get the best price from a welding shop , somebody that sells off a bulk roll , Napa should have any ends that you may need .

I made the one that goes from battery to battery.



Agree, get bulk wire, get terminals from GOOD auto parts shop.



Then there is a school about physical crimping vs soldering.



I soldered mine with a propane torch, gently heating until right temp so as not to aneal the copper.

Try your local heavy truck shop. I had a complete new set built for my Peterbilt last spring for $75. Excellent fit/finish! They even used a good heavy color coded shrink wrap on all the ends!

I made up a cable for my V-10 Ram. I added the passenger side battery tray from a diesel Ram and installed a second battery. I made the cable of 4/0 welding cable. Sold that truck to a friend, and replaced it with the current unit.

My favorite supplier for stuff like this is McMasterCarr.com. They hav BIG battery/welding cable and lots of terminal ends. One of the best web site search engines ever too.

My favorite source for battery terminals and cable is Napa. Go in and talk to the old codger behind the counter. Tell him you need X feet of red and X feet of black. Then pick the terminals you need out of his book. My preferred ones are the ones prefilled with solder(I typically add a bit of mine own to it). I clamp them in a vise then heat with a torch GENTLY until it liquifies and put the wire in the puddle. I am also a stickler about using the red battery terminal anti corrosive.
