I am looking to replace my headlight bulbs with some brighter units. I am thinking about going with the 80/100 watt bulbs. Will this cause a meltdown?

Also they list all kinds of fancy names but I guess I am not really understanding them. They list no specs so I am not sure which ones are the best as in the brightest and the best for seeing things in the dark. Below are some of the descriptions I have seen. Any experience with these or recommendations?

brandon... are you running an SLT or a Sport model?... if its an SLT, the first thing you should do is the sport headlight conversion.

It is a SLT. Thanks for the info on the sport conversion. I think it would be good but I am not wanting to put that much money or effort into it. I am just looking to spend about $30 on some bulbs and be done with it.

Installing higher wattage bulbs is not a good idea. The headlight switches run hot and tend to burn out anyway.

I saw something in these forums about a company selling a direct plugin relay kit for our headlights, but I can't find it.

Anyone else???

I think the kit from Geno's takes the load off the switch, but I can't think of the name of it.

As far as those fancy blue bulbs - forgetaboutit. They are a gimick and offer no advantage. I tried them and got rid of them the next day. Get good driving lights or landing lights.

brandon,

I just installed the Sylvania Ultrabright? bulbs from AutoZone... they were 20 bucks ea with a $10 rebate. IMO they look brighter to me. They are the same wattage as the stock 9004 bulbs but these have a hotter temp rating on them. I'm happy... still not 100 watt bulbs but I don't thing my fellow driver would enjoy those as much... .

bulb replacement

Brandon,

I just replaced my headlight bulbs with the 9004 high output rplacements. They are definitely brighter.

Those sylvania silverstars are in my sportlights with the pias , and are the same. The pias were 80$ ,sylvanias at autozone are 40 with a 10$ rebate.

light bulbs

be very careful about high wattage bulbs--especially with factory wiring. the wiring to the left light is 20 ga, and the right, 18. high watt bulbs will generate more heat, and overload the wiring and switch. try Wagner Bright Light or Sylvania Xtravision bulbs, if you're going to leave the wiring and switch stock. same wattage, and i thought brighter before i got my truck rewired.
