Hey guys do any of you know where I can find a replacement cup holder for my truck. Its a 99 2500 automatic, tan interior I called around to the dealers around the area but the all want between 90 and 120 $$ I don’t know if this might help but here is the part number they gave me 5FR421K9AD I have looked in junk yard but the very few that I have found are not the right color or scratched and faded. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time and help.

Raul

The good news: The cup holder *can* be repaired.

The bad news: My repair has lasted long enough for me to forget exactly *how* I did it. I took pictures, but it would be a miracle to find them.

No doubt I could do it again though.

Did the little tabs that keep it from sliding all the way out break off? Mine too. I'll try to think of a fix if you will, then we can share without spilling any coffee!

I used Plastex to repair my coffee-spiller. It sets up in seconds. The kit comes with a "rubber molding bar" that you can use make a mold for missing parts (copy the tab from the other side, or from the correct side on a friend's truck). Then go beyond "repairing" to "improving" the piece - add more material to make the sides thicker/stronger. Check for clearance, then sand, file or grind away excess as needed. If you get excess material in the holes, just re-drill them. When finished you will have a noticably tighter fit - and a stronger cupholder. :)

If only one side is broke, go ahead and reinforce the other side anyhow - or you WILL be doing it later!

Plaxtex is pretty easy to work with, with just a little bit of practice. AMink, you are in luck, since the Plastex folks are in Reno. You might get them to give you a demo and show you how it's done.

FWIW, I've been using Plastex for 3 or 4 years. It is good stuff, and it is amazing what you can do with the molding bar. I am glad to see that the price has come down. I've gone thru 2 or 3 of the "master" kits that used to sell for $75.

Their website is kind of "busy" and draws you attention away from the hyperlinks for the Online Store, Repair Photos, and Product Application.

I like that unit from Geno's. It's kind of hard to tell... . Will that thing hold a big cup? Like one of those 24oz ones? Thanks!

I haven't tried it with a super big gulp or anything like that, but the 16oz coffee sits level with the top of the holder, the 20oz McDonald's cups are a nice fit and I'm sure that they will accomodate a larger size as well.

Soda cans disappear into it - which is great. No more tippy drinks, and if something spills or splashes, it's caught by the holder which is easy to clean.

I bought my first one for the '96 when I got tired of the cup dumper splashing coffee onto the floor.
