My truck is a '00 QC w/Infinity sound system - tape/CD head unit & rear door, front door and A-pillar tweeters. My driver door 6x9 speaker w/amp on the speaker is dead but the tweeter works - 6x9 is infinite resistance across the leads.

Besides purchasing a replacement speaker from a dealer what other options do I have? I do not want to change all my speakers or the head unit. Can anybody recommend a specific bolt-in pair of replacement door speakers that don't require a bunch of re-wiring?

Brian,

I just went through this with my wife's 2000 Durango SLT+. The problem I ran into is that the Infinity speakers are 2 ohm, and none of the stereo shops I went to could come up with a good bolt-in replacement. Rather than go with their suggested amp and total speaker replacement, I wound up buying a factory replacement speaker (the cheapest way I found to get Momma happy again!)

The Guy Atcrutchfield Tells Me There Are No Aftermarket 6x9 Speakers That Will Fit Behind The Door Skin. They Recommend 5&1/4's With The Installation Plates They Have To Make Them Work. But You Have To Get Rid Of The Speaker Amps.

i went to an aftermarket speaker... you just need to watch the thickness so the new ones won't hit the window when you roll it down... it's a tight fit, i think 2 3/4 deep is all you can fit

Well I had the same problem and used a Pioneer triaxle speakers 6X9 in the front doors. Yea I know its a 4 ohm but it works great for the last 3 years. Here is how I did it, I removed the amp carefully from the OEM speaker by breaking the magnet off, next I mounted the amp in the inside the doors in a upper forward corner bolting it to a hole aready there. Hook up the new speakers to amps and bolt them in stock place. Make sure everything clears the window. I spent about $100 on a good set of speakers and soldiered all connections.

Hope this helps

Oh, 4 ohm speakers work, but they deliver half the output for a given volume setting, so if you're only replacing one speaker... ...

I mounted 6X9 triax speakers in the doors of my 02. I just used foam backed tape from Pep Boys advertized to seal truck tailgates. I did install an amp as well.

I have the originals I pulled still in great working order. PM me if you want to deal.

The idea is good on putting the AMP's on after market speakers. .

BUT isn't it the AMPS that go bad??... Not the speakers??

THANKS

My amps were fine, the speakers were/are junk. The Pioneer triaxles I installed sound great and more importantly still sound great after 2 years of use. Now my rear speakers are shot an I am going to replace them with Pioneer speakers again. I have concidered replacing my entire system but I have a 6 disk cd changer with the OEM infinity am/fm cassette head and a sirus receiver and oem steering wheel controls and it still gets the job done and no one will mess up my truck to steal it! ;)
