Asking for a friend... 2001 2500 Quad Cab, NV5600. ECM is going south, but FCA no longer offers. Cummins is asking $3500 for a new one :--) (not happening). What should they look for when searching parts outlets and ebay? Thanks for all suggestions!

I just sent my ECM out to SIA Electronics for a test and resolder. I was seeing some wacky ECM voltage levels on various sensors (like -49 degrees on the battery temp sensor when it was 65 degrees outside) via my AutoEnginuity scanner. For $237.00 they will open it up and take a look at all of the solder joints. I was chasing a problem with driveability but only after it warmed up. SIA found broken solder joints which they resoldered and tested good. It's working fine now and the voltages are within range now. My other option was to go for a rebuilt Cummins ECM for around $900.00.

I had an ECM fail on my 24 valve back in 2014. NPD Diesel in Jacksonville did a good job repairing the unit. It was around $800 to get it completely rebuilt, and at the time, the truck had about 250k miles on it, so I can't complain. Since the repair, it has worked without any problems.
