I need a new set of speakers for the front doors. My front left side quit working. I know I have the Infinity system that has amps on the front door speakers. Any suggestions on what I should go with? I don't really want to go all aftermarket with an external amp and all. Just something similar to stock that is a bolt in.

Got it!. There are two wires coming from the amp that go to the speaker's signal (+) and return (-). All I have to do is attach them to the new speakers, and viola!

From what I've heard the original speakers are 2 ohms impedance. You will lose some volume with 4 or 8 ohm replacements.

For me, I will be replacing them with aftermarket speakers. Reading the other post and knowing that this is the second driver-side spkr, I don't have faith that the stock will last. Thanks for the offer, though.

So, the consensus is that any 6x9 speaker will work for a replacement front door speaker on a infinity system??? It will hook up to existing wiring and work?

Not all Infinity systems are the same. If you have the late model high end system your 6x9s probably have the amp built right onto the speaker itself. If that's the case when you ditch them you loose power to the rear speakers unless you jump the wires on the harness side of the factory speaker plug. I think we went through this once before, try doing a search there are a few good threads on it here... .

You can just transfer the stock amps to the new front speakers, right? I have an aftermarket head unit, I can't spare the cash for a new one, amp, and speakers. What would be the best combination to get my sound back? New speakers and the stock amps, New speakers and head unit, or new speakers and an amp, or some other combo?

I had my front speakers replaced at Best Buy. They connected the new speakers to the existing amplifiers, and all works well. Truck is a '99

I only have six wires coming into my amp from the door. Orange, brown, black, yellow, green, and blue. They don't match what my service manual shows. What's up with that?

I would think you could transfer the amps to the new speakers. If you are going to buy two things, I would buy an new head unit and speakers. You can always run new wires to the speaker from the new head unit if the amps don't transfer... . then buy a new amp later. In my opinion, if you are going to replace the head unit, you may-as-well eliminate the factory amps... they are more of a headache than they are worth. The new head unit will probably put out more power per channel than the factory amp could anyhow. Plus, you probably won't need an amp on the door speakers unless you add a big sub.

The main problem here will be the 2ohm impedence... your aftermarkets will be higher (4ohm or more) so they will take a higher volume to hear with a factory setup. Another good reason to get rid of the factory crappy amps.

The more I think about it, I would look at the specs on the factory amps... I don't think they do much better than 30w and that is at 2ohms! So, your 4ohm aftermarkets will only get 15w AT BEST! Crap, I tell ya!

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Are these coming from the door or the back of the head unit? Your door speakers will have tracers on them...

Yes. I installed a set of Infinity Reference 6x9's without the amps. I just hooked into the front speaker signal and return, and they sound great.

After reading you had the aftermarket head unit already I was going to suggest doing just that. Most after market heads have better amps built in than the factory set up. Are you getting sound from your rears too? Some times deleting the factory amp will make the rear speakers loose sound...
