A few months back, I opted to go with a replacement lift pump offered by genos. The kit came with an inline filter which I installed upstream of the LP. Would anyone know if local autoparts store would carry such a filter, or, one that will do the same job? i tried to get a number of the filter but could not. I'm even considering just removing it all together. It's been on for approximately 10000 miles. All opinions welcomed. Thanks!

I think you would find that "filter" is really a stainless steel screen. I doubt you would ever really need to change it in the life of that lift pump.

Might be worth a call to Geno's to find out... they are typically very helpful.

If you find it is a screen, I would not bother changing it much before 50k miles of use, if ever. I placed around 100k on my FASS's screen (much bigger) and cut the it open, it had almost nothing in it...

Thanks. I was planning on changing the LP filter this weekend but wasn't sure what the interval was on the inline. Think I will just remove it and run with out for a while so i can cut it open to see what may be inside.

use the inline filter

the inline screen filter is not a small tight micron filtering aid. but a filter add to add some protection to your lift pump. I have the same type prior to my fass pump. I get them at napa. its a napa gold I replace mine every 7-10k miles but every couple months I will take it off and tap it you can even back wash it with diesel. some times its pretty clean and other times suprising there is some big flakes. dending the time of year and the quality of your fuel source. IMO this filter is important. I know what part # I use for my fass. I dont know the one for geno's you should call them find out atleast what they are using for micron rating on it. so you dont buy one to restrictive and make your pump work harder.

Dieselwrks, What is the NAPA part number you are using? I am getting ready to install my FASS and do not have a filter selected yet to protect the FASS. BTW, does having a filter prior to the FASS affect the operation or pressure of the FASS???

Dave

sorry slow on that that is the one I use 3/8 I was having my b-day party last night and so I was told had to many to drink. ( we will let the evidence, the camcorder) decide that. this is the same filter that FASS recommends. at one time Vulcan turbo components, FireBall injectors, DrawStraw™, Big Line Kits, FASS, Quadzilla, Edge,AirDog, DTT Trans, ISSPRO, HTT Turbo, AFE, Veg pumps, metric adapters, fittings, silicone boot kits, brackets, harnesses, AFE, Diamond Eye exhaust, Parker f had a nice billet cleanable reusable filter same style that you could use and just take apart and clean but I have not found another like it that would go well with diesel.

suprised my fass came with this filter when I purchased it.

Dieselwrks,

Thanks for the response but no such mammal included in my kit. I want to use one though. I want a low restriction filter and be cleanable. Any suggestions would help. BTW, How's the head after the b-day party??? Also, Proudly served USAF 1982-2003.

the 3270 napa is best for the price and ease of changing. these are not a lifetime filter but as said earlier I will back flush with diesel only one time on my fass150 is only the hpfuel pump. not the full meal deal with filter and seperator. I should have made that clear. Im going to end up doing some searching though for a reausable inline filter that can be cleaned and is all screen no filter media. I should call DPP/fass on micron ratings I cannot remmember off the top of my head. what they recommend so you dont strain the pump. IMO also the draw straw is a good investment on the strain from your pump. plus you get to drop your tank and really see how nasty it is in there. and my Head is fine its my memory that is still questionable on my b-day party. :-laf

The NAPA 3270 is included in ALL HPFP Kits that utilize the 3/8" fuel line. We do not include a pre filter for ANY of our FASS systems (The one with the filters) as it is not needed.

Thanks LowFly! I've had the pump and filters since December but have been waiting on fuel pressure gauges prior to install. I am going to use the fuel gauge port on the pump for my fuel pressure gauge. I will be installing in the next two weeks. Anything wrong with that??? Also, I have always wondered... I sent my warranty paperwork in immediately after receiving the pump, but I wrote in the area of the paperwork that specifically says not to write in. I honestly read this after writing info in the area. Did I hose myself over?????????

I know most people want to get a fuel pressure reading just prior to the injection pump vp or cp3 you can get a T fitting for this. I dont know if your going to keep your stock fuel filter or running full FASS filter system. but if you use the pump pressure is going through the filters and possible your stock filter if your using this. and then get your reading so you know what it is going into your injection pump. hope this makes sense.

Thanks dieselwrks, based on the responses, looks like we'd be better off leaving it in and replacing it at every LP filter change, or, at a minimum, clean it each interval.

Gotcha!

Dieselwrks,

I am using the FASS by itself bypassing anything factory until the CP3. In case I didn't clarify, mine is the FASS 95/95 w/filters. I figured since I was replacing the whole works that it did not matter where the sensor was as long as it was post pump and filters. Enlighten me if I am wrong. In case I failed to say so, thanks for your inputs!

Why not use the pressure port on the FASS? Its downstream of the filters, and any drop in pressure at the CP3 is going to be read at the FASS output (liquids don't compress)...

I've been running a sensor there for quite a few years with a mechanical guage under the hood. It takes quite a bit to plug one of these FASS filters off to the point you would see it on a guage... so if you do routine filter changes, the guage is more for monitoring the condition of the FASS anyway.

Thanks Steved. In my post #14, I stated I was going to use the "G" port of the FASS itself. Thanks for chiming in!:-laf
