My '03 has the factory am/fm, 6-cd radio with the Infinity sound system. The receiver DOES NOT have an aux. input, which means I must listen to my XM satellite radio via FM radio. That is not very satisfactory since I have to keep changing frequencies when driving from town to town.

I would like to get a replacement radio that either has XM satellite reception built-in or has an aux. input. Also, I would still like to use the steering wheel radio controls.

I went to a local car audio shop and was told that since my truck has the Infinity sound system I would need to purchase more that just a new receiver. I think new speakers is what he was referring to.

Any suggestions from you folks?

Glenn

you shouldn't have to buy new speakers. i'm pretty sure just a different harness than the stock adapter harness. but you would have to buy one regardless. go to crutchfield.com and talk with them about it. they are very helpful and informative.

with the stock infinity you just have to run the blue/white amp turn on wire to the deck otherwise the speakers wont work, I personally would run Alpine, been very happy with the products. I currently have a Pioneer Avic Z130BT and my steering wheel controls still work, I believe the guy that installed it had to buy a converter but it can be done

The infinity system has a separate amp. There is a kit to make it work. I ended up with a new kenwood head unit and an alpine amp with some new speakers. XM, steering wheel controls, etc - I think it was around $2k for the whole deal installed.

Check Crutchfield. The infinity does have a separate amp. Crutchfield also sells adaptors for your steering wheel. Recommend a deck with USB. Easy to connect a $5 memory stick. I average 55 albums per 4gb memory stick.

The Infinity systems runs a 2 channel power amp (for front and back) attached to each front door speaker. The wiring gets interesting since there's two channels to the front door (4 wires) and then two wires run to the back door speaker and two to the A-pillar speaker plus power. Like AEdelheit mentioned, you have to signal the amps to turn on but most aftermarket decks have a wire for that. The extra power that the deck provides (usally 40 - 50W per channel) isn't used since there's a seperate amp. With a new deck you might use the preamp outputs instead of the speaker outputs to drive the Infinity amps. My truck has a cassette deck so I use a tape adaptor to run my iPod.

I purchsed an RB1 off ebay. It's from a 2005 Ram. It in the navigaional unit, and has an aux input that can either be occupied by the disk changer or sat radio. The head is Satellite ready. Never had to cut a wire. Direct fit and plug in.

Actually there's a small silver box that came with my Satellite kit that has a 2 into 1 box so you can toggle from Sat to Cd changer at the head. But I have a mopar satellite kit and I don't know how you'de hook up a regular satellite kit.
