I have been doing a lot of calling and poking around on the web with not much luck, does anyone know of a place I can get replacement drivers seat bottom cushion. My 96 std cab has a broken down outer edge. Any and all help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance, Dave

I know there was an article in a past TDR mag on how to do the R&R, but I cant seem to find the article or even which issue it was in. I also need to fix my pilot seat.

Me too, but i'm gettin used to the duct tape. Not really. Hey jtisdale, do you have any better pics of the xenon flares? They look pretty nice.

You are in luck, I will be putting them back on in about a week or so. I'll post some pics then and pm you when I do.

Does anyone have the issue number for the seat foam R&R? I think the procedure is pretty straight forward. I know the seat covers come off with very little work and it isnt necessary to remove the seat from the truck.

I had the same issue with my bottom(s) and got great results by finding a local upholstery shop and had them replace that outer panel for $50-60. Toughest part was finding a matching material to OEM. I also added extra cushion material (find a local foam shop... usually the upholsterer will know where to find foam). I live in Reno and there's a cottage industry of restoring classic rides... Hot August Nites, and other events in town create some of the best restorers available soooo that helps sleps like me who are just looking for the basics. Good luck

P. S. I don't have the TDR issue # for the seat improvement but it was very basic. Remove seat bottom, disengage the spring bottom and add some low nap carpet squares and re-install. Helps a great deal. You can add extra foam, etc on the outside edges to give you bolster on the sides. It'll never be like a custom seat (recaro or other products) but I re-do mine every two years or so.

You cannot buy the bottom foam anymore. Either you have to fix it like rotohead said or go to junk yard like I did to get more foam.

As far as putting it back on I went to a carpet shop and got a 14x18" sample of ultra low nap carpet and made sure that the walking side(up side)was against the foam and glued it on with spray on foam. Then went and got some 1/16" plywood and glued it to the bottom of the carpet. That way the springs of the seat are against that thin wood and will not press into the carpet or foam. Fastest and easiest bomb I've done.

P. S. I got hog ring pliers and hog rings and just put them back exactly where they were to begin with.

Drivers seat bottom repair

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I will take the cushion apart and give the cushion some extra foam. If anyone can remember the TDR issue on this repair lets and it to this thread. DP

DProehl,

The last half of my post came from the article you are trying to find. The only thing I did different is to use a thin wood piece on the bottom of the carpet piece to keep the springs from cutting into the carpet. I got this piece of information from someone on the site here that did the same thing. So it was a tried and true. Works great. I have the magazine here somewhere. If you do a search on the site, you will find it.

Issue 35 page 14. I just added 1" to my '98 seat with 358k miles and it feels better for sure. It's different from the older seats but same principle applies.
