2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Replacement Stereo for '95

My '95 needs a new in-dash stereo. Original OEM Infinity still works (and I'll hang on to it) but I'd like a new unit that plays CDs and has the front MP3 input jack like my '07. Any suggestions on a unit that will fit the dash opening without too much fuss (read proper adapter plate), no chopping up the OEM dash consol, and hook up to existing harness would be much appreciated. Don't really want to break out the sawzall to do the job. Would prefer a unit that has control knobs vs the puny microscopic buttons that many units have today.

Most car decks are a standard size (single DIN) and you buy an adapter plate and a wiring harness connector for your specific vehicle. The Infinity system complicates things because there are power amps mounted on the front door speakers (driving both the front and rear). You need to replace at least the front speakers and do some cutting & splicing in the doors to loop the wire from the car deck to the rear speakers.

So I take it you cannot use the factory power amps? I've never had the door panels off, guess it's time to have a look. I think one of the speakers is on it's way out any way.

I've bought a few stereos from Crutchfield. All with excellent results. Highly recommend something with USB. Then buy yourself a Nano USB. It will stick out maybe 1/4". Easily carry 50 albums. We no longer carry physical media in our vehicles. If the Nano Memory stick is stolen you are out $10. Link included to give you an idea. Now is a good time to get something with built in Bluetooth. Bluetooth can be used for phone calls. More importantly for streaming from phone/tablet to the stereo.

I've converted to Alpine. Other decks/manufacturers have their plus/minus attributes. Last year I installed the Alpine 147BT, Alpine PowerPak amp and new speakers. I'm not a true audiophile. When it comes to speakers I buy whatever is on sale. Usually in a matching set. Crutchfield also includes the wiring harness adapters with the speakers. The Alpine included in the link has color changing face plate and RDS Radio info.

You can probably keep the stock amp & speakers. The amp is attached to the speaker so if you want better speakers you have to toss the amps.

Interesting car deck. I have an Alpine digital deck (no CD or tape). It has a colour LCD display USB input and full iPod control. It's discontinued and doesn't work with newer iPods (thanks, Apple) but I'd never go back to CDs.
