replacement tanks

I just wanted to see what people had to say good, bad, or indifferent about either transfer flow and/or aero tanks. Is either brand better or worse than the other? Any experiences with either company would be appreciated.

I had an aft-axle transferflow installed last month at the factory in Chico. I am pleased with the product and the workmanship to install it! I can fill both tanks from the existing fuel filler door and the pump automatically keeps both tanks at the same level so you're always using fresh fuel. This tank came with a secondary fuel gauge that lets you know how much fuel you have in each tank and the total,but you really need only to read your standard gauge to check how you are fuelwise. I can recommend this company without hesitation.

I bought an Aero DP-45, 45 Gallon, Alum. Tread-Plate, In-the-bed tank about 6,000 miles ago. I like the tank a lot. It seems well built, and is a true Aux. tank, not a transfer tank, although I use it like a transfer tank.



I have a couple of gripes about Aero. (1) When I bought my tank they wanted to give me one off the showroom floor, and I looked it over and decided it had way too much dust in the bottom from sitting there with the filler and gauge holes untaped. I asked for a fresh one from the back. They brought one out, and the holes were un-taped on it too, so I just washed it out with #2 before I installed it. No big deal, but I guess I expected more cleanliness since we are dealing with a Diesel Fuel System here. (I put a NAPA fuel filter/separator in line and now I filter most of my fuel twice).



(2) I've had a hard time finding a locking tank cap which won't leak. I finally just used the non-locking one that Aero gave me with the tank and it doesn't leak, but won't lock either. I'm working on that one.



Overall I love the tank, and it is very slowly paying itself off. I'd do it again.

Transfer Flow

From first hand experience, Transfer Flow is absolutely top of the line. They aren't cheap, but are worth every penny. No comparison with anyone else in my opinion. If you search on aux. fuel tanks, you will find many complaints of poor mfg. quality and difficult installations with some other manufacturers.



And no, I am not sponsored or affiliated with TFI in any way. I just dropped some good coin and completed installation of their aluminum diamond plate 98 gallon in-bed tank with their camper shell fillneck kit, and couldn't be happier.

I posted some real old threads, probably not reachable anymore. I did the AERO and the transfer flow. The transfer flow was the fix to the AERO it ended up in a dumpster. Did not mount right did not fit right. The transfer flow is the most dollars but that means that the tank they sell you will fit. Not associated with them, they just make well engineered stuff. Worthy mod for a new truck. Get the AERO for the 12 year old dodge that you rolled for the third time or the ford/chevy you pulled out of your brother in laws swamp. IMHO You would have trouble justifing the cost of these systems. Wow! Sorry to hear your Aero Tank didn't work out for ya. Didn't you have two Aero Tanks?



Last summer I replaced my OE 36 gal. fuel tank with a 54 gal. Transfer Flow replacement fuel tank and couldn't be happier! Awesome quality!

Yes I still have the 50 gallon replacement tank. I got it to work with a little effort. And yes I have been mining this board for info and advice and posting what I know for quite a while.

Replacement Tank

I have a Transfer Flow replacement tank, about 54 ga. Just the extra 14 or so gallons has made the tank worth the purchase price. The only possible problem I see with the tank is that its bottom extends below the frame rail. The tank is steel and I don't use the truck for off-roading, so for me its not a big problem. The tank also makes it a real bear if you have to remove the center support bearing for the rear drive shaft. The tank utilizes the factory fuel sending unit for the fuel gauge. It just stays on full for a long time. An advantage of this tank is that I can still add on an aux tank replacing the spare tire.



I can't remember if you had a long or short bed. This tank requires a long bed I think.
