So I did it today. My buddy has a 1/2 ton 3rd gen w/ the hitch w/ the bumper ball, no receiver. He scored a HD hitch for free and asked me to mount it as he's not too mechanically inclined. I accepted and assumed it would be a 30 min. job, if that.
Well, I should've studied my truck a little closer before accepting the task. What i thought would be an easy install turned into removing the bumper and raising the bed about 2" to get the hitches to slide in and out. While I do like the mounting system, I don't like the means of replacement. After crushing my hand and having an 18mm deep impact socket hit me square between the eyebrows while under the truck, I've learned my lesson. I think my tools were mad at me for being neglected for so long. Or they were mad I was working on a 1/2 Ton. The job took a good 1. 5 hrs.
Either way, if you're ever in my area and you need your 1/2 ton hitch replaced for some odd reason, let me know. I'll be glad to help.
