Help please. I have purchased a new Crankshaft Position Sensor to solve the intermittant tach operation and I'm ready to install it. I know I need to remove the starter to get at the sensor bracket for removal and installation. Can someone tell me what type of socket is needed to remove the three mounting bolts. The bolts are definitely larger than 3/8" and smaller than 7/16", and although a 10mm will go over the bolt head, it does not obtain a good grip due to the star shape of the bolt head. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Pat

Not to alarm you, but I started along the same path and I am now waiting on a new short block. The crankshaft in my truck was bad which compounded the problem. My sensor was ruined when I pulled it out. 60,0000 miles and a new motor! That is a long way from the 400,000 or so everyone expects.

Thanks for the reply. The truck is a 2000 Quad cab, automatic. I now have the correct tool and plan to replace the crank position sensor later today.
