I was changing my fuel filter today and started thinking(uh-oh). Is it possible to get air in the injector lines when changing the filter? I remember what it was like when a buddy ran out of gas and had to bleed the injector lines. Just wondering if anyone has had to do this when replacing the filter.

I know some people reported having trouble starting the truck afterwards, mine have always been trouble free changes. Hope it stays that way.

fuel filter

first of all I'm no pro. but I"ve changed mine two time's, make sure you put a new o-ring on and don't over tighten then turn the key on and let the fuel pump cycle and turn it off,do this three or four times and you should:eek:  be ok hope this helps it has worked for me:) Don

rrab is correct

and if you want the lift pump to run for 26 seconds than bump the starter but dont start it, than if any air were trapped inside the system it will cycle itself back to the tank:p

Yep, you can do it easily.

It is a great time to discover that your LP's taken a dirt-nap.

The service manual outlines the filter change procedure as well as bleeding the high pressure system if ya pooch it. I think your owner's manual will outline bleeding the low pressure system.

Any way, bleeding the high side is not a big deal if you do mess up. provided you have a 17mm or 3/4" crow's foot to loosen the appropriate injector line nuts. JUST BE CAREFUL IF YOU EVER OPEN UP THE HIGH SIDE, THAT'S SERIOUS FUEL PRESSURE THERE, KEEP CLEAR!

filter replacement

when you "bump" the pump, you will actually hear the difference when you eliminate the air. just listen with your head under the hood, it will start off at a higher pitch, then as the air is pushed out it will lower.
