I have to replace the engine oil pan on my brothers 94 Dodge. It is a regular cab, 4wd and auto. I thought I saw a thread on this without having to pull the engine. Any help in making this job easier would be great. :) thanks.

I have never done this but I know you don't need to pull the engine. I think all you need to do is raise the engine enough for the pan to clear the crank and main caps.

Seems to me I saw that thread too. I think you also have to remove the trans. and bell housing so that the pan can slide out to the rear. Also, once you drop the pan you have be able to reach up inside the pan to remove the oil pickup because that is sticking down in the sump of the pan, but I don't know how it is attached or how to disconnect it.

Please let us know how it goes.

When I dropped the pan on my 2wd, I only needed to raise the engine about 3 inches to get enough clearance to remove the pan. Transmission stayed in place, but I did loosen the mount to allow it to rise with the engine.

took both motor mounts loose, & jacked up against the flywheel to take my pan off, but mine is 2wd. Watch your boost hose, & take the fan off first. As the motor comes up , things get tight, Also take the boost hose off going into the intake manifold too.

I will try to jack the engine up and sneak the pan out that way. I plan on doing it next week. I'll be sure to let you known how it goes. Thanks for the info.

Just wondering why you have to change it?

oil pan removal

I have removed my oil pan on my 97 4x4 3500. I loosened two engine mount bolts pulled up on engine with hoist dropped pan reached in and unbolt oil pump then everything was ok.

I did have transmission out because of cluth replacement.

I was told it could be done w/o hoisting the engine but i tried it and would not fit without hoisting.
