I did a search and didn't find anything on this subject. Has anyone done this yet? Does it really need to be done to handle 40w per speaker? If so, I'm wondering if there are any tricks to making this task a little easier? Also, what size wire would be best?

I'm replacing all four stock speakers with some Alpines this weekend. I've already got the Alpine head in the dash.

Thanks in advance!

I did it mainly because every speaker in my truck is AMPLIFIED. This meant I had to wire my speakers to the Amps which I located under the seats.

If they are just 40W speakers, I believe you don't have to change the wiring but the speakers may sound better if you do.

Addded on edit: You could call crutchfields. They have an adapter that will mate up to you factory harness for speakers. That way you won't have to cut and splice.
