Careful here - there is some bad info flying around. :-{} If the vehicle is a 6. 7 it will have the cat and dpf. The new cat and dpf can not be used with lsd, infact it is illegal to use the lsd. It will damage your emissions system. The cooled EGR takes care of the NOX. There are no NOX absorbers. Must also be very careful to use Low ash engine oil - otherwise the ash will accumulate in the dpf (can't burn ash) and plug her up over time. Of course the infrastructure that processes, ships and stores ULSD is the same for LSD. There will be sulfur contamination in ULSD from LSD. This was of great concern to the processing industry. It was be interesting to see some random testing done around the country. I've seen pink ULSD here in dallas - from what I understand that pink tint is contamination left over from off road diesel processing. It's all gonna be a mess till LSD is all gone. IMHO. I get a kick out of the additive industry (snake oil). The biggest ULSD providers in the world clearly state DO NOT USE ADDITIVES. They are not necessary - even Cummins recommends that you DO NOT not use them. Why do we think we know better?! I must admit though, I think it's crazy they did not use a 7th injector.

Sorry, no bad information. It comes straight from Dodge TSB's. There is a difference between the pickup models and the Cab and Chassis. Go back to some previous posts and read it yourself.

For your second post, it wasn't real sharp, especially the part about the pink tint in the fuel from off road diesel processing? Sorry, but the red off road diesel is dyed at the point of pickup or the point of delivery. No special process. It is dyed for the purpose of taxing only. Other than that, it is the same as any other diesel fuel, no matter if it is LSD or ULSD.

You are welcome to your opinion, but state it as such, not that it is the only factual statement in the thread.

I didn't hear from my hotshotter friend today so I stopped by the Dodge dealer and talked to the service writer managing his repair. The part they ordered correctly named "Fuel Pressure Valve" did not arrive today. it is supposed to arrive tomorrow, Saturday, so the part won't be installed until Monday.

I don't know but am guessing that the Fuel Pressure Valve is similar to the Fuel Control Actuator in my '06 5. 9 engine.

Again, I don't know but it makes sense to me that the dealer tech wants to install the FPV because the symptom was low power. I guess we'll find out Monday.

The original problem in my truck at around 50k miles was a throttle control valve. That might be what they are talking about. The part # was 68027034AB valve. Along with that was a part # 68005256AA Gasket-throttle body. That is how my problem started back then and then went to the wrong flash. I still would be willing to bet that somewhere along the line he has had a wrong flash put in or attempted to be put in or put in wrong. If he could get someone to take the electronics back to the way they were originally and put the correct flash in, he would probably be all right.

EB,

Did you have a low power symptom?

You could be right about the part, I just passed on what the service writer told me.

You are probably right about the wrong flash also. I passed all the information you have shared on to the hotshotter and urged him to join the TDR and use it as a resource.

Does anyone know if ulsd is available in dyed form for my backhoe???? Un-taxed??? Thanks !!! Grasmo

Where are you?

I've been told by our local fuel jobber that dyed diesel here is now ULSD that has been dyed. It took a while to go through the old stocks and gradually flush the sulfur levels down. It's not certified ULSD, but he's pretty sure it makes spec now.

The distributor here puts the dye in it as he pumps it from the truck. Therefore I would say that for those who stock in bulk both road and dyed it comes from the same tank. Which would mean that it is now ULSD.

What is the story on after market air filters? This is the first I've heard of a problem. I have a 7'5 Megacab Dually with the 6. 7 setup that I was going to install a K&N on. Jerry.

Aftermarket air filters are like the line that "Ford owns Cummings" (spelling error intentional) that won't go away. Some are determined to believe in spite of the facts.

Chrysler will void a warranty on a truck with warranty problems and an aftermarket air filter. The TDR magazine has published test reports over the years demonstrating that they are not necessary and provide no advantages for stock and relatively stock engines run at normal rpms. In many cases they do not filter as well as the factory original and can permit induction of debris and early failure of piston rings, etc.

I know, this is not what you wanted to hear so you will probably buy one and many TDR members will defend them. Each to his own. It's our American right.

Herguth Labs in Vallejo CA just sent a flier that they reduced the price of their sulfur test kit from $250 to $195 for the ten test kit. It works even better now since they upgraded the kit chemicals. I have tried it on several kinds of diesel and it is a little hard to read on red fuel because of the dye, but it does a great job of reading the sulfur content.

Jerry,

As I refreshed my memory of what I had written and what you were replying to my original answer above seemed a little negative so I will explain why I wrote it that way.

So often fellow TDR members ask a question and someone gives them an honest, objective and factual answer. Some then immediately dismiss or ignore the answer they received because they were not actually looking for an objective answer but were actually seeking agreement or support for a decision they had already made.

It sounds like you actually wanted an answer on which to make a decision.

Correct... as for myself, the truck is at almost 13k, a few CEL's, had G30 and latest flash as of yesterday. Otherwise it has performed very well and expect that it will continue to do so.

UPDATE:

The hotshotter picked up his truck today, apparently repaired, and headed for home. I read two of the three service department work orders on his truck.

The first reported that the catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter were "full" and were replaced under warranty. The hotshotter didn't have a copy of the work order but each of us were told previously that the in-tank fuel transfer pump was replaced under warranty as well. The third work order stated that the "fuel pressure valve" was "popping-off" at 15,000# and was replaced under warranty.

The hotshotter was satisfied and promised to call me when he was back home to let me know if his low power/no power symptom and CELs were cured.

My new friend the hotshotter called today. His truck ran great, showed good power and improved fuel economy on his trip across TX yesterday going home. He was on his way to Louisiana to pick up another load today. He is a happy owner again and said he has dropped the idea of trying to get a buyback under the lemon laws. He promised to let me know if he experiences any further problems.

As many of you guys have suggested I am taking my truck to a different dealer. I have an appt. Thurs. A. M. . I will let you know what happens. Cass Burch (dealer) was allowed ample opportunities to repair my truck (14) ,I do feel a little stupid for having the patience and confidence in them. I will not reccomend them to anyone looking for diesel repair. The more they saw my truck the less courteous they became. Well Excuse me!!!!
