I'm new to the group, and have an early '91 Ram 250 with Banks mods - I have also had a US Gear overdrive unit installed, which works quite well - especially since early '91's had no OD option...

Now, with over 100,000 miles on the truck, and the mods done, I would like some pointers on beefing up the transmission in case it fails - and wonder what typical mileage is on these trannies before o'haul is required, and what their potential is for upgrading?

WELL - that IS a big help Gene, glad to know that at least one 727 is still going strong at nearly 200,000 miles - wonder if you do much heavy towing with yours?

No Gary no heavy towing. The only changes made to my trans is I added the factory super duty cooler and I have a Mag-Hytec transmission pan with a temp. probe and guage to monitor fluid temp. I also have placed small nylon strips between some of the meatal cooler lines that could rub against each other to prevent any leaks. Also check that the throttle valve linkage is returning to the idle posistion, this will help at start off. The return spring will weaken over time.

I have a 1990, all stock (!) with the 727 transmission. I haven't had a hint of a problem. A friend of mine did the banks thing to his, and did some occassional towing (10,000 pound trailer) and his transmission started slipping at 222,000 miles. Keep changing the fluid, the fluid and filters are really, really cheap when you do it yourself.

Thanks again, Gene, for the leads on the super duty cooler. Mine is now installed and it sure helps keep things cool getting the trailer over the hill.

Beautiful truck you have there.
