Well, I survived my trip.
Started just across the Idaho line and turnaround point was 20mi. West of Eugene, Or.
Route was by hwy. 20 over Santiam pass over the Cascades then hwy. 126 along the McKenzie river the rest of the way. All two lane road. Avg speed was 65 east of the Cascades and 60 west.
I kept very accurate track of fuel mileage, always filling clear to the neck, (A painstaking task with my pickup) and fueling at start and turnaround points.
I was pulling a small tandem axle cargo trailer, used the A/C all the time and did not use the cruise control. Outside temp was 85-90 each afternoon.
421 miles each way.
Loaded comb. weight, 11,050. 16. 83 mpg.
Empty comb. weight, 8,750. 17. 05 mpg.

This is pretty close to what I always got before the mod. I dont ever remember getting over 20mpg with no trailer. I do think if you mash the pedal all the time it will be more detremental to your economy than before the mod. I've noticed this with my big trailers although I havent kept accurate track of mileage while pulling them yet.

Hope this helps.
Don.

Don D,
Glad you survived the trip. Thanks for the mileage report. It looks like it was some pretty good hills that you had to go through. I'm assuming that you have 3. 54 gears. Thanks again.

Just thought I'd revisit this topic and report more fuel mileage info.

It seems that the economy will vary according to how heavy my foot is and how big the load is.

Since my last report, I've been keeping constant track of my mileage.

The worst so far was pulling my 30' Titan equipment trailer with a JD 4430 tractor in very steep country, real hot outside.
GCVW=25,500lbs. 12. 6 MPG.

Put on quite a few miles pulling my 27. 5' 5th wheel this summer also.
GCVW=17,000lbs. avg. is 14-16 MPG.

Lastly, I made another 800 mile round trip run to the west coast again last weekend, no trailer, set cruise @ 60mph, Avg mpg for the trip was 20. 6!! #ad

One more thing, These are the PW (Power Wagon) injectors you may have seen mentioned in other threads. Since PW is no longer working for the shop that did my mod, I felt that it would be ok to let everyone know now, since the part #s and CPL are posted at the top of this thread. If anyone finds this to be a bad call on my part, let me know and I'll edit this post.
Thanks everyone. This has been a fun one!
Don.

Good luck and enjoy.

I have located some inconsistent information. Early in this post Don D put up a Bosch # 0 432 133 875. This was later crossed to a Cummins # 3919744. Looking at the Cummins "Master Repair Manual Injection Pumps and Injectors Midrange Engines" book printed 2-00 in the "Fuel System - Overview" section, page 5-9, I found the following. The Cummins # 3919744 shows a Bosch # slightly different 0 431 131 875 not 0 432 133 875. If anyone can help clear up my confusion please do. Thank you.

The 97 printing shows no Cummins supersceded part #. Possibly the later printing is a supersceded #. . ?

Old School, I could not find anything in the 2-00 printing that showed the # was superceded. Looks like there is some inconsistency on Cummins part. My concern is that if one was to order the #3919744 injector from their Cummins dealer they MAY NOT end up with the injector that Don D is so pleased with. Any "parts guys" out there who can help????

I called CUMMINS NORTHWEST to price these injectors and they told me I would need the serial number for the engine that the injectors were for as #3939744 didn't have a listing but it did show that the nozzle was #3939745, I know we aren't supposed to talk prices here but when I asked for a ballpark figure he told me that recon injectors ran approx $100 each and new injectors are approx $600 EACH, this seems awfully expensive, is this information correct?

Caleb, That's crazy!
Email me and I'll get you in touch with the shop that did my work. Their exchange price for brand new Bosch is much less than the recon price you were given.
Don.

I've heard alot about these injectors, but I am torn between these and the Ted Janetty specials. Does anyone have his injectors or know what he is putting in them?? I am going to the Rally in Terrehaute to see all the trucks, but part of my mission is to find out who offers the best injectors. Right now it sounds like the P. W. injectors are the way to go.

Let's here more!!

thanks
Big Don

Just called Cummins in Houston Tx. and was told that Part # had changed from Cummins 3919744 to Cummins 3802330. Price new $ 110. 27 but only have limited avalibility. Not sure what this means but he (Parts guy at Cummins) did not offer to try to locate any or order any!!!! He did say that these were Bosch units so the above Bosch numbers should be good.

Forget getting the Bosch injectors at Cummins. The price is 80%+ higher. You pay the same to Cummins for "rebuilt" units as you do for new units at a Bosch dealer($60-$70 each). Eliminate those touchers!

According to my sources, this is not available as a new part, which is why they want your core. They replace everything except the injector housing. My cummins store ran the number against what bd sells, and says they are the same, and quoted me a price of $52 each, exchange, and has already installed several sets on the recommendation of the list to satisfied local customers. I've also spoken to Joseph Donnelly,(thanks for your help Joe, hope you don't mind the name drop) who has spoken to Piers, and both recommend this part as worthy of consideration for first gen trucks. Thanks also to P. W. for leading the way on this one... I'm merely waiting for a paycheck or two, gonna go with the 16cm2 housing, injectors, and a thorough pump timing all at once. If your dealer wants ~$100, e-me,(or P. W. for that matter, he started all this)and I'll do what I can to set you up, or call Gateway Cummins in Columbia MO, and ask for Forrest in parts. Please tell them Alan sent you, if you do...

the bosch number you have is for new injectors and they are available on the group discount deal. We sell them at our shop but the group deal is better. Hope that helps
