To my fellow TDR members

I'm trying to determine a fair price to sell my 04 2500 QC LWB CTD R48E auto transmission truck.

Dealer wants to stick it to me for trade in.

I have about 28,600 miles on it, still in original factory warranty for another 7,000 miles/15 months PLUS I have an extended warranty to 70,000 miles, bed sprayed by ARMA, dodge nerf bars, dodge security system, am/fm cd, cloth bench seats, fold flat rear storage, chrome body molding, dodge mud flaps, dodge front mats, rear window defroster, power heated trailer mirrors, tow package, 3. 73 rear end, 305 hp 555 torque turbo charged diesel.

I get around 16-17 mpg in the city, 21 - 22 mpg on highway at 70 - 75 mph and I get 13 mpg pulling my 9000# 5th wheeler at 65 mpg.

This truck has two tone paint, bright white with metallic silver on bottom, good original tires that have been rotated, all scheduled maintenance has been done and documented. The truck has no dents or fender benders.

Runs great, starts right up, does not white smoke, idles at 750 rpm, interior looks great, no rips in seats, driver's seat is electric, has trailer brake controller installed, legally tinted driver and passenger windows, has limosine tint on front window, auto dimming rear mirror, fog lights, tow hooks.

At the moment, I have a removable flat floor Super 5th wheel hitch in it to pull my 9000# 5th wheeler, but will take it out when the new truck arrives.

I purchased truck new on May 29, 2004 and waited for factory exhaust brake that Dodge promised but never delivered until this 2006 year model. I am ONLY selling this truck because I could not get a factory approved exhaust brake for it.

I have recently ordered a new 06 QC CTD LWB R48E transmission 3. 73 rear end supplemental air bags, power pedals for my short wife, power everything AND a Dodge exhaust brake WITH a 0$ deductible 100K mile Dodge warranty.

If you had my 04 truck, what would you sell it for?

Thanks to all who respond.

Look it up on Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) and sell it yourself. Put a 4 sale sign on the drivers side rear window and drive it to work and shopping or where ever you go.

My buddy recently tried to sell his '04. 5 with 30k miles on it, it was a QC dually 4X4 sport with the Laramie package, basically every option. The sticker was around $46k, he paid around $37k, he did not get any bites at $30k for over a month trying to sell it, it was like new. He ended up trading it in. What kills the late model private sale is the great deals on new trucks, all the rebates and low financing, selling a late model truck in good shape with low miles you take a bath.

I would say $25k private sale.

The 2wd is what hurts it the most.

This is VERY true... if it were a 2WD 3500 SRW, you might fare a little better because they are more rare than the 3/4 Ton... The fact that Dodge is offering 0% on 60-months on the '06's makes the re-sale market even tougher, used vehicles usually finance for over 6. 5% + for a 60-month term... I just sold my 2004. 5 3500 SRW w/Cummins 600 4x4 with lots of options, 18K miles, and damn near perfect condition... I didn't take a bath, more like a shower, but it took me 3-months to unload it and the buyer made one hell of a buy... no regrets, just bad timing... Look forward to my new dually to arrive soon!!!! :-laf

As said above, 0% financing is going to hurt the resale of your truck. Also, the price of Diesel rising again toward the $3 mark won't help either. My suggestion would be to put it in the TDR classifieds. I sold my truck there a few months ago. Its free and painless. As for you owning a 305/555, take 3 asprins, lay down and tomorrow, cancil the delivery of the 06 you are thinking of buying. You have a great truck. You are about to make a mistake that you will in fact regret. The new truck = white smoke at start up, much less fuel economy, cat converter, alot of MORE emission controls, i could go on but I must also say, you will be taking a LOSS and with your truck along way away from leaving warranty, you took the big loss when you drove it off the lot. the same will happen to the 06 very soon. My advice, and it just that, my advice is to KEEP YOUR OLD TRUCK! In a few months, you will agree with me. Good luck, with what ever you may do.

I searched high and low for your exact truck when I was buying last year; where were you when I needed you??? :)

I agree that you should rethink this decision. Right now you have the 3rd gen equivalent of the 98. 5 12-valve quad cab, and long term I think it will hold it's value very well.

That being said, at present the $25k private party price mentioned earlier is reasonable. I paid $26k for my '03 (with 14k miles) thirteen months ago from a Dodge dealer.
