Truck's in the shop this week (Hot Rod Diesels in Hitchcock, TX) getting treated to an automatic transmission performance rebuild complete with performance torque converter and heavier flexplate, due to noise bearing(s) in the OD. This brought up a discussion with my partner in life over how much $$ to spend on the 1996 instead of trading up to the Mega-Cab (we pretty much use ours like an SUV anyway). I'm pretty sure the stuff (bumper, aux fuel tank, lights, etc) I've added to the truck over the past 11 years would be more appreciated by a private party rather than trading to a dealership, but would like to hear some opinions on where one might look to get an idea what would be a reasonable price for both seller & buyer. Is there a forum for this here on the TDR Roundtable?

The dealership won't give a rat's flying snotball about what add-ons you have put on your truck. Carmax told me that the stuff I had added to my 2005 CTD actually subtracted value from the vehicle, which I'm still trying to figure out how... . doesn't everyone want Grover air horns???? :-laf

Fred,

That's why I figure that the only way I'd get even close to reasonable value is to sell to someone who basically wanted all the extras anyway -- saving them the trouble of rigging it out and gaining us both a better deal. (now, how to find that person:confused:) Heck, if I go get a new CTD, I'm probablly going to be dropping 8-10 grand on it before it even gets used to pulling into my garage!:D

Dear Santa: bumper, running boards, aux fuel tank, bed liner, camper shell, CD changer,.....

Umm, if you're looking for a 34 year old kid to adopt, I'm available :D My 01 needs new goodies, but the wife says no..... new house takes priority before my toys.

Anything, be it a truck, car, motorcycle, ATV,... ... ... , will ALWAYS have better resale value in stock condition than modified.

If you were looking for a 1996 2500, 4x4, XLT CC, auto, would you buy yours or another one like it in stock condition?

Come on now, be honest. ;)

Nah, think my boys will just have to live with the club-cab's back seat a while longer. Actually, sitting back there isn't that bad as long as you don't have to climb in and out very often and since they're both under 12, they'll be pretty nimble for quite a while yet. We only really start having issues with the wife decides she wants to lean her seat back without sliding it forward some first... . :-laf That REALLY cuts into the back seat space and results in some :-{}#@$%!:{ from the passenger side of the rig while they sort it out.
