reset CEL on 2006 2500 4x4

Are the dealership the only people that can reset the CEL on a 2006? Took it to my mechanic and his OBDII would not do anything. Tried unplugging batteries for couple hours nothing. any help greatly appreciative

The 06s and up have switched to CAN BUS, not OBDII. You need a scanner that is CAN BUS compatible. Most new ones should be. Take a look at this thread for more info.

I have a 2006 that lit the CEL. Could not turn it off or check codes manually.

Disconnecting the batteries always worked on earlier Rams, but the 2006's must have a small battery embedded somewhere in the system like a desk top computer. Does anyone know why disconnecting the batteries does not remove codes and extinguish the CEL??????



BTW, I finally did buy an Actron 9145 scanner, and was able to reset the system. Cost was $199. 99 after a $30 rebate. Bought it at Autozone. Action Auto also had these, but they were $279. 99 and did not offer a rebate.
