Has anyone done this? I just changed form a 3" straight to a 4" from City Muffler and Performance. http://www.mufflerandperformance.com/ Off E-Bay $315. (Good service) This is an improvement, but there is still a drone at highway speeds. I did a search and came up with TDR'ers with the same problem, but found nothing about a 4" resonator. Just from people who enjoy headaches that have removed their stock ones. Thanks for any answers.
 
you can order a 4" dynomax race magnum "bullet" muffler from Summit Racing for $36. here's a link:

there may be a cheaper option in the truck world, but there will be zero flow restriction (no louvers) and it should help.



from what I've read, you want the resonator to be as far forward as possible and you want the muffler as far back as possible.

I installed a resonator in front of my muffler and it just changed the rpm of the drone. It seems to come on earlier now. Like at 1600 to 1800 rpm. It is also quieter at the pipe also.

HMatson, I have shortbed with a resonator before my muffler on a Rip Rook 4" Aluminized, no drone here, exhaust sounds great!

Thanks for the info guys. If I can't find one small enough from Freightliner or suck, I think that summit link would work.

About 2000-2200 on mine, and that was 70 MPH. that's why I put on a 4" with muffler.

I just installed a 4" undercab to dual 5" chrome stacks exhaust system with no muffler and no resonator on my 6-speed. I get a HORRIBLE drone right at 2100 RPM. I just ordered a 4" resonator and I'll be getting it this week. I'll keep you posted on how it effects the 2000-2200 RPM drone.
