I run a stock lift pump moved back by the tank with stainless steel fuel lines (ie no banjos anywhere). It works great. I have 14-15 psi at idle, 12-13 @65 mph and 8-10 at WOT on 5x5. I would like to see the WOT press a little higher and have been considering the HP4061 as a temp fix. Then once someone get a year on that new PE4200 with out a failure I may switch to it.

What are the threads on the carter 4601 ???

i installed the 4601 in the stock location , it lasted 1 year and 40k miles , died when i ran it out of fuel (this was the second time it happened in a year) reinstalled the original back in march and its still running . i'll be installing a new 4601 back at the tank in the near future , and i carry the stock as a spare , i am going to put the stock back in its its stock location and configure the lines and power do its an easy switch from one to the other in case of a failure .

opie , i have been running dd3's for the same amount of time as the pump along with a hot PE and EZ , 412 at the rear wheels , the injectors weren't the reason that pump failed , where was it mounted ?

the pumps are failing mainly because they are mounted in the wrong plcae ... where have i heard this before ???

Well I guess its been almost two years now that the fuel pump has been mounted on inside of the frame. After having my transmission upgraded I copied the idea from the Kondays. (All fuel lines are AN-6 with enlarged fittings. ) I dont run DD3's As I am a fan of the mentals and I find myself run laughing gas from time to time. So tell me what was killing my pump everytime I ran the quarter? The last time one went out the truck had almost 3/4 tank of fuel, so I doubt it was because of cavitation. Perhaps as luck would have it, I just bought the pumps that were manufactured on Mondays! Anyway, since running the additional 8 pd pusher the failure problem going down the quarter has gone away. I too am with o_mccarroll in hopeing that the new pump is the fix. I just was trying to get the point accross if you are only running the p4601hp by itself, it has been my experience that it will leave you stranded. Everytime one failed on me it still sounds like it is running fine. While I am on that thought-The fuel pressure guage has been my favorite tool in the truck...
