Retirement Truck-Can't decide

Our retirement truck is a 2006 2500 5. 9 auto 4X4 3. 73 2" front lift (levels the truck well)Mega cab.

I want to change tires to Nitto Terra Graplers. and I'm torn between 305/70/17E and 285/79/17E.

The question is

1. Will the 305's fit the standard rim

2. Will the 305's clear the front wheel wells

3. Will the 305's be to hard to turn with the 3:73/1



I've got a set of 285/16 on my 01 truck and they have been great tires and will go to 285/17 on this one if necessary



We will be towing a travel trailer of about 6500 lbs

If you plan to do much mountain towing, I wonder if the 305's coupled with the 3:73 final drive ratio might make towing uphill a bit hard. I guess you can always drop down a gear or two. Especially if you rarely tow in the mountains & really like the looks of the 305's. I believe that you live in OH so, that may not be much of a problem. May be more of a concern for those of us living in mountainous regions.



If I'm not mistaken, don't some folks think that the larger tires contribute to the infamous "death wobble"? Thought that I read that on the Dodge/Cummins related websites.

Nitto makes a 295/70R17D but it is a D rated tire that carries the same weight as stock tires.

A 305 is a slightly shorter tire than the 285 and will not even be hardly noticeable towing that amount of weight. The 305 is a little wider, but I would think your truck will not even notice the difference and yes they fit fine and will all go on the factory rim. With only 6500lbs, your truck will still drive and pull just like the stockers. Scotty

I have the 305/70's on my truck with the Kore Recon kit. In all honesty, they would have had NO problem fitting on stock. There's a ton of room. I'm going to 35" Toyo's next.
