retrieving codes from 2010 3500

my check engine light came on my 2010 3500 but everythings looking right and sounding right. theres no loss of power, just check light. looked thru buyers guide but it only tells how to retrieve from earlier models. tried that procedure but nothing. anyone know how to bring up codes on dash without buying high dollar scanner?

Really? You mean the Gen IV trucks won't display codes in the odometer like all earlier trucks would? I didn't know that.

Never tried but since the DIY guy will not be able to test many dtc's with out a good scanner anyway not much need for it

Iirc 2007 and newer do not offer the dtc retrieval through the odometer trick.

Huh. My '12 shows the codes just like my '01 did (3x key-on cycles). Not saying the '10s do, just odd that they'd take that feature away and then give it back.

That's what I thought. I think other owners of new Gen IV trucks have posted here they could read codes just as you said.

I've got a P2196 right now and the key-on key-off trick does nothing. ??? Had to use my Mac scanner to pull the code.

There's nothing complicated about reading the codes in your odometer but there is a certain technique or timing required.

I've always been able to display codes on my 2006 in the odometer but for some reason my 2010 won't.
