retro-fit UConnect

I know this has been posted before, but please bear with me (or beer, your choice. )



Who has retro-fit UConnect into an 05 (or any Gen 3) Ram? I currently have the Infinity combo unit in my Laramie, which is one step down from the 6 disc changer. However I would like to add the RB4 at the same time.



I was going to purchase and have the dealer install the add on UConnect unit, however I was dissatisfied to hear that the add on unit does not work through the factory stereo in the same way as the factory installed unit that comes in the mirror.



So help me out.

05Ram on the www.lxforums.com forum has got his to work. I am still working on a glitch in my system. It is rather expensive (around $800. 00) and you need to make up a wiring harness to connect the Uconnect mirror, module and radio. If your truck did not come from the factory with Uconnect it is missing the wires in the main loom under the dash. Thats the reason for having to make up your own harness to replicate the missing wires. If you do a search under Uconnect on the Lx site you will find three threads describing how all this works. Connectors for making up the harness are available from Metra and Dodge.

What did the 800 go toward? I wish I had held out and found one that UConnect from the factory.

Discounted prices for :Uconnect module $483. 75, mirror $174. 00 and mirror harness $30. 75. The guys on the Lx forum are having Metra manufacture a harness for thier cars which could be modified to work on our Rams. Cost is going to be around $60. 00.

I have the added U-connect with out the mirror and it works through the factory speakers. I have a Laramie with the 6 cd changer and infinity sound system. I've been pleased with its performance. It was easy to set up only thing it'll scare the bejabbers out of you when it rings.

Ouch! So if I understand this allowed you to use it through the factory head unit like a factory install where the called ID number comes up on the screen.



2 people have posted that the call runs through the factory speakers with the dealer install which is different than what I was hearing 6 months ago. Weird.



So - who installed the dealer install version themselvs?
