Hey folks- Just bought my 06 CTD SLT Big Horn. I want to retrofit the factory steering wheel audio controls. I'm fairly sure this is doable.

anyone have a clue what the part numbers are?

As well, does anyone know the part number for the 4" Nav bezel? I would like to put in an aftermarket 4" nav system.

Thanks!

Big Horn is basically an SLT dressed up with lots of options like tow hooks and other things. It's just a package group. It's not listed on the Dodge website for some odd reason. Do a search on ebay and you can see a number of Ram Big Horn edition trucks.

I have a Jeep and my son has a 3500 SRW that both have the wheel controls for the audio system... . but from what we understand its only availble on the upgraded audio package..... my jeep has both the upgraded audio system and Nav. . his has only the audio system...

I have 3 other trucks. . all SLT's with the standard single disc cd/am/fm system... and couldn't get the upgraded wheel on them..... 01, 04, and 05.....

From what I've seen you need the upgraded stero... .

I'm probably going aftermarket for the head unit. There are modules out there that will adapt the factory steering wheel units to other head units. I just need the controls on the wheel.

BEZEL, Instrument Panel, Center:

1CN27 1DHAA 1 [D5][JBM]

1CN27 1J8AA 1 [J3][JBM]

5JU26 DX9AC 1 [JBF]

5JU30 1Z2AC 1 [D5][JBB]

5JU30 1Z2AC 1 [J3][JBB]

5JZ12 1DHAC 1 [D5][JBY,REC]

5JZ12 1J8AC 1 [J3][JBY,REC]

5JZ13 1Z2AC 1 [JBB,REC]

5KE76 1DHAC 1 [D5][JBY]

5KE76 1J8AC 1 [J3][JBY]

D5 and J3 are interoir color...

JBM - satin silver panel

JBF - black panel

JBB - woodgrain panel

JBY - Color keyed panel

REC = BIG NAV radio opening

And your steering wheel control idea will require a brand new steering wheel - you cannt just put the back on your wheel...

But here are the part#'s:

4685 728AB

4685 729AB

let me know if you have any ?'s

Thanks Tomeygun! I'm going to talk to my local dodge dealer and see what I can scare up and how much it'll cost me.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure it is as easy as just adding the wheel and switches. First you have to have the premium radio. The way the system works is the wheel switches send a MUX voltage to the body controller (cluster) and the cluster busses the message to change the settings to the radio or amplifier. The vehicle configuration might not support remote controls, and there is no way to alter the configuration from stock. Before I purchased a bunch of parts I would use the chart on SM page 8A-187 and jumper a resistor to C4, pin 12 of the cluster and see if you can make your volume change. If you can, go for the parts and it should work, if not, you are out a couple of bucks and a little time.

Just to let you know DC did a stupid thing and the Nav bezel is NOT a standard double din... Its larger than a double din and last I knew Metra did not have an install kit out yet. I put in a Pioneer D1 in my 06 with the nav bezel and the installer had to build a custom ABS plate to fill the hole. Looks pretty good but its not the right size.

The bezel ran me $64 I believe at my dealership. I will try and get a picture tomorrow so you can see the size difference between the Dodge hole and a double din.

we were going to do this to a Wrangler using grand cherokee parts

the clock springs are also different. i think you are in for more trouble than it is worth unless you can find everything from the same vehicle in a junk yard

there was a web page for grand cherokees that gave good info in the RB1 radio conversions which is not the same as this but similar good luck I cant remember the link.
