I'm installing a back up camera on a 2003 2500. My big concern is how to tap in to reverse to power the camera. My thought was to access the terminal inside the trailer plug to avoid splicing into factory wires. Some say to splice into the reverse light wire. I'm afraid of damaging the computer either war. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

The amount of draw for a reverse camera is next to nill.

Only acts as a signal.

tapping into the reverse circuit won't hurt anything.

However, I used 2 cameras one on each side of the truck behind the cab (one angle left the other right) The a SPDT switch (center off) one leg of the switch for each camera. Now I can use either one for for a backup camera AND to see what the trailer is doing behind me going down the road OR check blind spots on either side at ANYTIME. Just my 0. 02. :)

BTW, my moitor is a GPS with a video input so it works like this . Center off/GPS, switch left or right = corresponding camera. No fuss no muss. 1 monitor.

Not to derail, but while you're talking about back-up cameras, I need to get one for my wife's Suburban. Should I get a CCD or CMOS? I don't want to spend a lot, but I don't want junk either. I just want a clear picture, maybe some reference lines and I'd like infrared for night time. Using it with an Alpine flip-up DVD player. Either of you have one to recommend?

Thanks.

Any thoughts on connecting to the reverse light terminal inside the trailer plug? I'd rather do that than cut into a factory wire. I greatly appreciate the replies. As far as cmos vs ccd, I think I read there isn't much difference until you get into higher end applications.

This what I used http://www.ebay.com/itm/E629-Waterp...prg=1079&rk=4&sd=300906396772&#ht_5766wt_1141

the one thing I did though was take it apart and silicone sealed the glass AND housing joint to keep out moisture.

The ad says waterproof BUT somehow it did get in.

23. 50 no big deal to fix it.

color, color reference lines, infrared and a hood to block glare.

anywhere you can pickup a reverse signal will work OR like I said a hot wire to a toggle switch then to the camera use it anytime then. Not just in reverse. your call.
