Is the Scotty any quieter than a BHAF? I am getting annoyed by the noise out of my AFE.

While the Scotty works, if you don't like intake noise, you won't like the Scotty. With the cowl hole cut, it sounds like the turbo is in the glove box. I had one a few years ago, it was too noisy for me.

On the turbo noise,

Various members tried various schemes to minimize the turbo whine. None of them worked. I have the cowl hole cut and often cover the dash instruments and drive by the turbo pitch of the whine. I am a pretty conservative driver and the whine is minimal, but when you get your foot in it you will certainly hear it.

I flew jets for a good while and flew by the sounds of the aircraft (engines, air, etc (it's heartbeat)) and do the truck much the same. I like to listen to the subtle purr of the low pitch of the turbine (at gentle cruise) and know when you get into it you know it is responding.

And the filter is HUGE. Lots of sq inches of surface area.

The turbo whine is not my problem. The noise I don't care for is more like a pressure resonating sound that occurs when decelerating. Hard to describe...

Now I am sure you won't like a scotty. if I read you right, that is exactly the noise I didn't like and the scotty does so well. I actually like a bit of turbo whistle but with the scotty, I heard just a lot of huffing and puffing from the turbo, both on the pedal and getting off the pedal. Plus, with my minimal mods(just a DD EZ box), the scotty was more than I really needed, not worth the noise for me.

You that have and still use, what do you clean and oil with? Mine is getting pretty dirty, I bought two filters and even the one on the bench is dirty now.

I liked that the oil seemed to stay in the filter, unlike the K&N that draws the oil to the fins on the turbo.

You can use the K+N filter cleaner to clean

I would like to have had a Scotty II with a dry style filter. For now I'm looking to install a stock housing with an AFE dry filter and one of those cool silicone insulating hoses.

Mine is black. Maybe I have a different version of Scotty. I still like mine over anything else I have seen. I think (my opinion) that most of the other choices are much smaller in filter area.

I want a true cold air intake, and the Scotty seems to accomplish that... . I'd buy one if they were available again. My friend has one and loves it.

I think mine was one of the few clear ones scott made. It was also one of the first units with the Uni filter (which is why I finally went with one... I like Uni's).

Instead of making a new thread I will try to get my question answered here... Where can I get a new uni filter for my scotty??? Thanks Wesley
