Not the answer your looking for but

Hi,

I had Rhino in a few trucks including this one. Really like it. I recently got rear ended and received some paint damage to the rear quarter. I inquired about getting the quarters Rhino'd. I was quoted a price of $500. That was bringing it to the shop with the rear bumper off. I thought that was really high. The shop said there was a lot more labor hrs than doing a bed. They said they do a lot of hand sanding? I wasn't sure if I'd like it. They had some pictures of some that were done, it looked good, but I didn't see anything in person. I have a white sport with white Leer cap. My Rhino is dark gray and that's what I was going to do the Rhino in. They have white Rhino but it's big bucks. I was quoted like $900 for white when I had my bed done. Based on pictures I have seen. My opinon is if you have a dark colored truck the Rhino looks better since it's also dark. My $0. 02. If you get it done I would be interested in pictures.

The Line X dealere that did my bed quoted me $400 to $450 to go from the lowestr body line down. Nothing in front of the front tire since it is a Sport. Still keep telling myself to set up the appointment but things like other bombs keep getting in the way!!

I really want to have it done too. I'm basically just waiting until my lower body panels get enough chips to annoy me.

See if you get a better deal if you do some of the prep work.

Someone around here has his entire truck Rhino Lined. Must have cost a fortune.

I had the rocker panels Rhino'd when I had the bed done. Front wheelwell to the rear of the truck, just up to the body side moulding break. Cost $425 for the job. I have the graphite with the black Rhino, I think it looks pretty good and sure cuts down (eliminates) the rock chips.

digger,

check with aristo cote. I think the owner has a dodge with a coated stripe on his hood. the stuff is different than line x and rhino. i think they can adjust how coarse the final finish is. and besides the place is right in romeo. I had my aux fuel tank coated and i think it looks pretty good.

There was a 2 or 3 page article in a 4x4 magazine a few months ago with some good pictures. They did a red shivey. When they did it, they decided to get cute and bring it up around the wheel wells where you would have flares, so there was a 2" line-x wrap around the wheel wells. A bad idea. Straight along the rockers would have been fine. I'll look around and see if I still have that article if you're interested in the pictures.

I thought about it, since my truck is the graphite color, and the black would go ok as a two tone, but I would definately get the UV protection to prevent the fading you get with rhino. A friend of mine has a rhino, and it faded pretty quick. Next door neighbor also has a rhino in the bed and a big flap ripped loose, so I went with the line-x. I think it's a better product. Just my two cents.

Line-x

I have a black 02 with line-x up to first body line, it really protects against stone chips. It is going on 3 years and has held up great. The only problem I have is it has faded, but I have found that tire foam glosses it back up. To have mine done was around 400. 00. I will try to get a pic posted tomorrow.

We charge anywhere from $279 to $399 depending on the size of the truck to have the rocker panels sprayed with LINE-X.

Use Just Once (www.justonce.com) to keep your LINE-X looking dark and new. Spray it on about 3 times a year. Or, have your dealer apply either Ultra Shield or Dupont Nason and you won't ever need Just Once.

LINE-X is harder and has more that twice the tear strength of Rhino. Rhino's tear strength (per their website) is 145 pli (pounds per linear inch) and LINE-X is 304 pli.

I plan on having this done as soon as the snow stops. If you guys could post some pics that would be great. My only concern is it losing it's gloss and fading. Looks like with the justonce treatment or tire shine I should be all right. I am pretty anal when it comes to keeping my truck clean.

Thanks

Linexed

I had my tailgate(both sides), lower quarters/rockers and my box linexed. If I knew how to post a pic I would, if you want to send me a pm I'll send you a pic.

hey guys i checked on the white rhino lining and the local shop said they didnt like to use it b/c it turns a butter color. . just a warning. .

I had my rockers and inside the wheel wells sprayed by a permatech dealer 4 years ago. It still looks as good today as the day it was sprayed on. You can see the original post I put up about it here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5704 . I had my bed (black) sprayed by them a couple years before that (6 years ago) and it hasn't faded at all. The Rhino liner that I had in my previous truck faded noticeably within a year. Permatech warranties against fade. I haven't sprayed anything on mine. I recommend when you get it done to get it sprayed inside the wheel well lip as well because I used to get tons of chips on that edge from rocks tossed up by the tires. Mine sticks out about 1 mm and I haven't had a chip since I had it applied. Inside the wheel well is black and the rest is grey. You definately want to check out other jobs they've done because there is a ton of prep involved, etc. I went and looked at how they had it masked off before they sprayed it to make sure it was exactly as I wanted.

You say it was a bad idea to Line-X around the fender wells. Why is that? I've been contemplating Line-Xing my rocker panels, OEM fender flares and grill shell.

Strictly a matter of preference Grunt. The article instantly caught my eye and I thought it was an interesting idea. After going through the article and seeing some pretty good pictures of the end result, I thought it was going too far with a good idea. They went about 2. 5" outside the wheel well, along the flare lines of the body. It just didn't work with the lines of the truck, cosmetically speaking. If had different lines it might be ok, but again, it’s a matter of preference. One thing is for sure, whatever you do with line-x or permatex, isn’t going to undo easily.

Chevy went with that Robocop plastic look a few years back on their truck, and the first time I saw it, I needed to make a run to Costco for the family size bottle of tums. Something about that look, doesn’t work for me. . Just an opinion

I think what Steve has in the post above is the best approach, with a clean result. Maximum protection inside the wheel well & along the rockers, while maintaining the clean look of the truck. That’s the best part about trucks. After they’re a year or two old, there’s no two alike.

Here's a couple of scanned pics (so quality is not so good). The LINE-X on the quarter panels and fender flares matched the paint on the customer's Suburban. We use Dupont Nason paint, so it won't fade, at all. Looks GREAT!
