Rhino on Rocker Panels

Has anybody out there had Rhino or Linex applied to the lower portions of the body along the rocker panels and around the wheeel wells etc.





I am considering having it done. But just wanted to hear from anyone who has had the experience.

I have rhino on my lower quarters and I spent alot of $ and have alot of problems with quality of how it was applied. my truck prior to this I did it my self with Durabak cost me little over 125$ I think and I was able to be more picky on how I put it on. and I never had problems with it. I have used durabak alot before on other items and had great results. .

I did it on mine, over the rail liner, rocker panels, under the Power Wagon flares, and the rear bumper. All of the body coatings were painted with Endura to match the body colour and is almost un-noticable unless you really look for it. It is VERY important that you find a company that will spend the time prepping the surfaces properly. The place that did mine took 2 1/2 days to do the job, the truck surfaces were completely sanded down and then the work began. I had a friend who had his done at another place that does box liners in 3 hours and his peeled. mine is over a year an a half old and its like new. Its expensive, but well worth it. I Line-X'd the rockers on the 06 . Looks really good with the dark blue paint. I'll see if I can post a few pictures. Shop around for a good shop and price. I called serveral Line-X dealers and was quoted vastly different prices. I ended up getting it done for about $400. One place quoted me twice that. I;m very pleased with the result. Pretty much a must since I live mile down a gravel road.

Thanks guys, I realize the key to whole thing is the preparation of the surfaces or it's a waste of time and money.



Presently I have bushwacker flares and DC mud flaps on all four corners. Not a cheap set up and it I am always fixing them after they get caught on something and broken. The gravel roads are still winning and scaring the lower paint surfaces.



I have Linex in my box and on the roof of my cap so I can walk on without falling and scratching it. No issues with it what ever.

So I got the bright idea of doing the lower panels as well.

I had rocker panels linexed about 2 years ago after whole side of truck got keye down low. Instead of painting I used some of the insurance money to have it done. Turned out good, silver truck, linex was mixed to match the color and then it was painted factory color over the top. The place I got it done was great, the guy let me in the back to help out with it. Before I took it in I took off running boards, mud flaps etc. The only thing I didn't do was remove the rear bumper because I would have had to remove the hitch first. So on the back fenders it stops at the rear bumper, but it doesn't look bad.

I had mine done in Rhino just because of the price and close dealer vs Line-X. I went with the "UV topcoat" which makes it look "wet" or "painted" on. so far I like it a lot!! I plan on doing my 06 later this yearOo. They also did the whole bumper front and back which I like since we know 2nd gen bumpers tend to rust out.

It reminded me of the bumper issue.

Mine was custom made in my garage by a friend of mine. It only has flat black rust paint on it, so I will get it done as well. That way they can do the sheet metal behind it while it is off.

I had to take the bumper off for just that reason. well worth it I think!! no more stone chips!!!

There are a couple of differences between LINE-X and Rhino.



If you get LINE-X Xtra color match, the bedliner material will have metallic flakes just like your truck's paint. Both Xtra in black and Xtra for color matching contains a Dupont Kevlar micro pulp for extreme durability.



Rhino is using a topcoat that's new to Rhino, but very old in the industry and it's not as durable as LINE-X Xtra.

Does anyone know if they can take out an old spray in liner (another Brand) and spray a new one in there? My pickup is Amber Fire and i think it would look sweet with linex on the rockers.

Yes, LINE-X can do that.

Getting mine done as soon as I get home. Got in touch with a dealer and was quoted $400 for the bed, $350 for the rockers. Only question is should I apply it overtop of Bushwacker's? BTW, mine is white and I getting is sprayed grey. Matches interior and makes the bed a few degrees cooler than black!

I'm also considering having mine done. My truck is silver and would like the color of the Line-X to match, but have heard over time the lighter colors will stain. I try to keep my truck as clean as possible, but would hate to spend the money on it and in a few years it look bad. Jamnram, how does yours look after some miles on it, and has anyone else had good luck with the lighter colored Line-X.

Well I went ahead and got the the lower sections all Line Xed in silver to contrast against the patriot blue.



They did about 3" around the wheel wells the lower 12" along the rocker panels. Plus the bottoms and up the inside of the doors about 6". Got the home made steel bumper done as well.



The fella was very meticulous in the surface preparation. The whole job took 2 1/2 days. He photographed every area he worked on before, during, and after and put it all on a CD for me.

The Bush Whacker flares caused more damage than they ever prevented. Turns out alot of fine mud accumulated up in behind them and was starting to rust out the body. So he had to sand blast and prime all the affected areas.



Not a cheap proceedure but worth it my opinion as I would have had to have the body repaired next year when the rust showed up at probably greater expense.



If I can figure out how to get the 20 pictures posted on here I would so you could see just how it was done and what damage the flares caused that I had no idea was there.

I was qouted $800 but it included inside the doors. I have a two tone body so everything that is the bottom color would be covered. I have to take it in for a respray of part of the bed and top rail due to an accident. This may be a good time to have it all done since they will have it all prepped anyway... ??

One of the latest Genos catalogs had a red truck with a black bottom on . Looks ok but I think I will stick with silver for the bottom. The wife may think I bought another truck when it gets done:-laf
