Hey guys

Sorry I couldn't make it, The boilder at my business backfired and someone saw the smoke and called the fire department, they broke all the doors, even the ones that were NOT locked, cut holes in the walls and ceiling, Then they called the Building Inspector, Who along with the fire guys tryed to say I had a chimney fire, Bull just a lot of smoke, I replace the stove pipe today, NO Place burned in the pipe, Fix some of the Doors, Will have to wate till tomorrow for the boiler man to fix that, had to call an Electrician to fix the wires they cut, when they use a chain saw to cut a 5" inch hole in the building. Its just been a lovely day.

I hope all of you had a good time. Maybe I can make it next time. Best wishes to you all.

Man Thunderball, what a way to spend the day. At least there wasn't any fire and water damage to the building.

Four trucks showed up (Rammin On, Daves350, RMHanes, and Bumble). It was good. A PSD Excursion sneaked through real quiet while we were all at Pierces. After having some good BBQ, everyone headed over to the pottery for show and tell. It was something else to hear all 4 CTD's idling.

If awards were given out, Rammin On would have walked away with everything (most chrome, most power, most miles, most extras, most truck battle wounds). Oh, wait a minute, RMHanes would have won the COOLEST SIDE STEP award. And Daves350 would have won the "bounc'in baby truck" award with his 2001. 5 H. O. that was still hot from the factory molds.

Lots of good info was shared by all. A minivan even decided to stop by and lift it's hood too (all though for a different reason). It was a meeting of four fine looking trucks and some good people. Keith, Ralph, and Dave, I enjoyed talking and freezing my *** off in that wind.

We'll have to do that again soon.

Bumble sumed it up well. Sorry you could'nt make it--we had a really good time. Thunderball--Keith knows how to do guages #ad
. His truck was bombed.

Hope we can have another get together soon.

David. PS I get my exhaust brake installed on sat.

Hey guys. Sorry I wasn't able to make it either although it sounds like I had a better day than Thunderball. Like I suspected, I was in the motor shop Wednesday through Monday finishing assembly and dyno of the sprint motor. What a way to spend vacation. It was worth it though as we picked up 65 hp! Your trucks look great. I'm glad you thought to snap some photos. Maybe MEGARAM can make the next outing. Keep me posted.

Had a great time! Thanks for posting Rammin On! Had a few inquires from Bumble about the side step. It is made by a place called KODIAK and they are in Oregon. Found this in a trialer magazine. The step is called Sindwinder. There is a trailer place on route 17 in York County that sells them also but contact the manfacturer and you can get a better price. If you decide to install this step, just make sure to protect the wires. Mine rubbed through and the step would not go up. Would like to get together and do a gage installation party. Purchased the combo setup from Geno's, spent many a good dollar there, along with the single pod cluster. If I can get my act together, I'll bring goodies from the round up and rally and some picture of the previous CTD. As mentioned, '94 dark blue and a tree fell right over the engine compartment! The tires did not blow out though. Rammin On and Daves350 better half sure are understanding. Bumble, hope that this answers your question of where I got the step. Not all that difficult to install. Can always tell when CTD members get togther, the hoods go up and the hints start flowing! What a great group of people. The general agreement was that Williamsburg is a central spot and there is plenty of stuff for the other half's to do also. That is not to say would not mind traveling.

Thunderball, I ordered the VDO Vision pyro and boost gauges from egauges.com, and the dual full replacement A-pillar mount from Geno's. Hopefully everything will arrive by this weekend and the drilling can begin.

RMHanes, thanks for the step info. That's something that deserves checking into.

Hello to all the "local" TDR gang. Just to let you all know that i had my Jacobs E Brake installed yesterday, tried it out pulling my work trailer (3000 lbs) and it really makes a difference. Can't wait to tow the big rig up in the mountains.

Daves350,
Started on the slipperly slope of the aftermarket I see. How long did the installation of the exhaust brake take? Where did the switch get mounted or is there not a switch to activate the brake? Could the switch, if one was installed, be modified for installation on the shifter for us manual types? Did a oil change today and used the last of the nonFleetguard filters. Just could not see tossing the filter. Managed to get that plastic piece from the fender to the air filter out of the filter housing. Got late so did not take the knife to remove it completely from the truck though. Looked at the firewall for some places to run wires through and still need to look for a good place. At least wire is 'cheap' in case need to take the long way around the barn so to speak. Hope to get together again some point in the future.

Hey Dave, what was the $ for that brake? Is that the brake that doesn't effect the engine warrenty? RMHanes had a good question about the switch, can it be mounted on the shifter?

RMHanes, no since in wasting an oil filter by throwing it away.

Well fellows, I installed the gauges Saturday. VDO EGT and boost on the A-pillar. The full pillar replacement from Geno's looks like it came from the factory after being painted. For some reason the install took around 6 hours, but that included time for making additional "upgrades" to the gauge system. I was dissapointed when testing them the first time when the boost gauge didn't move when revving the engine. It was one of those "s^&t, now what is wrong" times. Well as it turned out, our engines aren't under a load just sitting in a garage (go figure). So, off on a test drive, and sure enough, a little throttle going down the road and boost came right up, and so did the EGT. These engines cool off fast when idling. Boost reached 20 psi during hard acceleration. EGT didn't go over 450 'F (post turbo). Went ahead and installed the pyro post turbo just for turbo cooldown purposes. There's too many other goodies to install before messing with the engine for a while.

You know, these aftermarket dealers should host get-togethers like we had last week. Seeing installed products on each other's trucks can make the difference between thinking about and doing installations.

Bumble ...

The Jacobs brake is the one that DC will tell you to use ... no warranty problems with that brake. Add 200 - 250 degrees to your post turbo application for a close idea of your pre turbo temps. 6 hours ... you musta been having toooo much fun!!

Keith

Ralph & Jeff: The local Dodge place did the install. Too much money --cheaper if you buy the thing from Cummins and have them install it. you also get a 5 year warranty verses the 3 years that DC gives you. I paid $925 for the everything. From what i've read and having talked to Keith the BD exhaust brake has better stopping power, but the E brake will do the job. The Switch is mounted on the dash above the brake controller. You can optain a stick mounted swith for additional$$.
Keith--I had a conversation with the service manger and he addmitted that DC would try and void my warranty for any unapproved after-market devices :but if push came to shove then they would have to prove that said device caused a problem. ( meaning that if i have the money to get a good lawyer). He also said that any electronic devices that were added could not be traced thru the ECM--hence the need for VOID stickers on my truck. So let the bombing begin.

Hope to see yall soon.

david.

Bumble, How difficult was it to install the pyrometer on the elbow after the turbo? Did you drill and tap or purchase a replacement elbow like I did? When I get around to installing the gages may install the elbow and do some comparsion of temperatures pre and post turbo. How difficult was it to snake the wires around for the gages?

RMHanes, snaking the wires around was easy. There is a rubber grommit on the fire wall that the hood release cable goes through... thats where I took all the wires and hose through. Attaching the boost line to the engine took a little time because the reducer had to be ground down a little so it wouldn't hit the engine while being torqued. Running the wires to the EGT probe was easy also, just tie wrapped them to some existing wires running along above the engine. As for drilling and tapping the EGT probe, I'll confess, I let someone with skill do that job (could just imagine breaking the tap off inside the elbow). The elbow seemed to drill and tap fine, just take it slow. Having these new toys in the truck is fun, though mpg may go down a little from hitting the go pedal too much watching the boost gauge move.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello fellow Virginians,
Make room for another Cummins Ram in your neck of the woods. Actually, I bought mine last January and I've been reading different articles here and there on the web (I'm kinda new to this computer stuff too). It looks like TDR is the best site there is for info and conversation concerning these trucks. My truck is still bone stock, but I would like to improve the performance a little bit farther down the road. So far I've had no complaints and still am amazed at the power these trucks have. I read about the get together yall had down by the pottery and it sounded like you had a fun day. I think gauges will be my first addition so I may be asking for some advise. Give me a holler when yall meet up again.
