Last April I ordered Rickson aluminum rims for 1997 SRW Ram, I received them last month. Better late than never. I soon found out that with 265/75R 19. 5 tires on they rub the fender liners when you turn the wheel. No one warned me this would happen. Since I can't find a lift kit for this truck I will have to modify the fenders. I will let you know how it turns out.

PS. The rims look great and the Goodyear 124s have great traction.

I also don't understand why you cannot find a lift kit? The simplest/cheapest thing to do would be to add Skyjackers 2. 5" coil springs or some 2" Coil Spacers on top of your OE coils.

Cost is about $100-120 for the spacers and about $150 for the skyjacker coils from Summit Racing.

I have the 2. 5" Coils and I love them! In fact I'm going with 315/75/16 tires next time I need treads. Yes 315's will rub some with just 2. 5" lift but anything around the 33" range 285/295/305 shouldn't rub very much at all.

Those tires are 34. 3" tall. They should completely clear with a 2" lift of some kind. Does the backspacing look to be correct?

Well if ya were around more and had asked?

And the rims are specd out for your 97 2500 4 x 4 properly? what else is up front besides the Plow frame ?

And there are what 4 different leveling kits , lifts , adjustments that come to mind.

Leveling kit = 1. 5 inches and 45 minutes to install (Easiest)

I asked if a lift would be required for my truck and was told no. I was going to order the tires from rickson until I found that I would save $40. per tire at the local Goodyear dealer. So they knew what rims and tires I wanted. The lift problem has to do with weight, all the lifts I checked on were not for 8800GVWR with plow prep. Let me know if a 2 inch lift is out there for this truck.

No lift springs needed. Just spacer blocks. I have this on mine with those same tires, on Alcoa's, no rubbing anywhere.

BTW, rotate the crap out of those G-124's, if you don't want to deal with cupping. They cup real fast. Also, check them periodically for cracks in the lugs. If they start to crack around the base of the lugs, they will warranty them. Free up to 4/32's of wear, after that they prorate.

Goodyear here in Phoenix was good about honoring the warranty, no questions asked. I had a couple out of round real bad after 15K miles, they prorated them. The wear on the tires is good, it's just an agressive tread.

I've got 265/70's w/G-124's on Ricksons and haven't had a problem with rubbing. The only neg/pos depending on your view of things is the buzz at speed from the aggressive tread... doesn't bother me.

Only problem i've encountered is recentering the ss trim rings. if anyone has any pointers on how to do this... PLEASE let me know.

thanks... .

Lloyd,

I was reading through some posts and came across this... I am glad to hear you like the rims & tires... a very long time coming but I believe, well worth the wait. Of course our 19. 5" steel wheels are always available and the production of aluminum wheels took a long time - happily they are finally in stock.

At any rate, I do think it is important to mention a couple of points regarding your situation:

First, in all of our literature we recommend the use of a 225/70R19. 5 size tire. Any of our sales/techs will always first advise that as well. Naturally, there are plenty of customers who want something larger than a 225. On your 1997 Dodge 4WD, I know you were advised that 225s and 245s will definitely fit with no fitment issues. 265s will fit, however, they will be close in the front. Aftermarket modifications, the use of heavy weight tools (i. e. snow plows) as well as the natural sagging of the springs that can occur over time cannot be measured by our technicians - at least not over the phone – and definitely not if we are not informed.

Second, and the key to this I believe, is that we had no way of knowing you run a 1,000 lbs. snow plow on the front of your truck for 4 months each year - that it stays on your vehicle the entire time. The plow you are using also happens to be 300 pounds heavier than the truck’s manufacturer's recommendations.

At any rate, the above information would have been very useful for us in leading you to the optimum tire choice for your particular situation. We do spend a great deal of time working with potential customers regarding wheel and tire selections for their particular truck and needless to say, as a business, there is nothing to gain by recommending something that is not correct.

I hope you are able to find a satisfactory lift kit – I trust you will enjoy the many benefits of 19. 5s for years to come.

Thank you,

Heather Marie Knutson
